Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) is the animation/adventure about the last life of Puss in Boots since he has used eight out of his nine lives already. The only way for him to get more is to find the Last Wish. While this isn't as good as the original, the animation and contentious relationship between Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) is about as good as it gets.
Justice League (2017) Is Superman better than Batman? In this movie, probably yes. Like all the other superhero movies, a group of heroes and heroines need to save the world. This time it's the Justice League with Ben Affleck as Batman, Amber Heard as Mera, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
Ammonite (2020) is a drama/romance set in England about Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) and Charlotte Murchison (Saoirse Ronan). They form a bond with each other that unexpectedly turns into a short-lived friendship/relationship. The ending is probably one of the best scenes in the whole movie. Let's just say there's a reason Kate Winslet is known as one of the best modern actresses in Hollywood.
Mr. Nobody (2009) is a fantasy/drama about a man named Nemo (Jared Leto as Adult Nemo) who reflects on his life as he is about to die. The movie delves into the different possibilities throughout this life. The only problem for him is he doesn't want to make any choices because he ultimately doesn't want to hurt anyone. The story travels back and forth among his three different lives to reach the inevitable end. Or is it the end? Yes, it's this kind of movie.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) doesn't hold a candle to the original but mentioning it because watching Dolph Lundgren with CGI red hair is one of the unintended funny aspects of this movie. The gist of this underwater story is how Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen) is on a revenge rampage for the death of his father. His only goal is to kill Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and the only solution to this is for King Arthur/Aquaman to ask his half-brother for help. With Orm (Patrick Wilson), Mera (Amber Heard), Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) as Atlanna, and King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren) all by Aquaman's side, there is now hope Atlantis will survive.
Cowboys & Aliens (2011) is an action/sci-fi about a spaceship landing in 1873 in Arizona to make it their new home. The only problem is the townspeople that includes cowboys and natives has something to say about it. It has a great cast with Daniel Craig as Jake Lonergan, Harrison Ford as Woodrow Dolarhyde, Olivia Wilde as Ella Swenson, Clancy Brown as Meacham, Paul Dano as Percy Dolarhyde, and Sam Rockwell as Doc.
Villains (2019) is a comedy/drama movie about a young couple that finds themselves trying to escape after being held captive in a middle-aged couple's home for reasons unknown to them. They realize all is not what it appears to be the longer they are in the basement without food or water. Kyra Sedgwick as Gloria does a good job playing the creepy wife. The ending seemed a little off but not everything can end the way I thought would make the most sense.
Escape from Pretoria (2020) is based on the real-life prison break of two political captives during the late 1970s. Daniel Radcliffe plays Tim Jenkins and Daniel Webber plays Stephen Lee and both were sentenced to 12 and 8 years in Pretoria Central Prison in South Africa during apartheid. Their escape plan took months of planning with many failures along the way but keep watching until the end because it's worth it.
