I was shocked that after losing Game 4 in a blowout, the Panthers couldn't bounce back to win the Cup on Tuesday night in Game 5 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals as the Oilers won 5-3 on the road. I lost my big play doubling down on Florida, losing 5.4 units. I don't regret that play though. Tonight we have Game 6 of what's suddenly become a VERY interesting series. Let's get some fun hockey with the Cup in the building again and the chance at Game 7!
The Panthers are in big trouble after having started this series with a 3-0 lead. They've since lost their last two games by a combined score of 13-4, letting the dangerous Oilers right back into the Cup Finals. The Oilers avoided the sweep in Game 4 with a huge 8-1 blowout win. I chalked that up to not much and hammered Florida to win the Cup in Game 5, but I was wrong on that one too. Edmonton went on to win 5-3 in a game that they never trailed, getting out to a 3-0 lead and holding off the Panthers' comeback attempt, capping off the game with McDavid's empty net goal. The Panthers really pushed late in the game to tie it up, limiting the Oilers to just four shots on goal in the third period. They outshot Edmonton 32-24 in Game 5 but they were outplayed by an expected goal rate of 3.8-3.21. I have my series play on the Panthers to win the series, that still has fantastic value with two chances to cash it (and -135 vs. almost -400 that it is currently), but no way I'm doubling down on that. I'd lean the Oilers win this game at home to erase that 3-0 series deficit and force what will be an incredible Game 7 in Florida on Monday. I considered betting on Edmonton here, but I think the best move is just staying off the game. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet that either. Let's have a blast of a game!
