It's (field) lacrosse season again! I crushed betting the PLL last season, going 30-17 to win 12.9 units. Although the league still has the touring model, each team has homes now, and this weekend the season kicks off with New York Atlas Homecoming in Albany. Let's win again this year, and start on Opening Weekend!
The books are offering first goal scorer and goalie save props this year…interesting. I'll have to evaluate the saves ones the first few weeks of the season.
Archers vs. Waterdogs (6/1 1:00)
The last two champions face each other in a rematch of last season's championship to start the season with a fantastic matchup. Last year the Archers won their first PLL Championship with a 15-14 win against the Waterdogs. Previously they faced each other twice in the regular season, splitting those games, with a 19-18 win for the Archers in Week 7 and a 14-13 win for the Dogs in Week 11. Statistically these teams were pretty close, with a slight edge on both ends of the field to Utah. I'd lean the Archers win this game, but not enough to bet it, but I can't resist taking them +1.5 for half a unit at -160 with all three games between these teams last year being decided by just a goal. I like the over though, with all three games last year hitting it. I'll take it for a unit.
Cannons vs. Atlas (6/1 3:30)
This matchup between these young teams isn't all that great, at least from last year. The Cannons were a huge surprise last season, with a great 7-3 record in the regular season. Even without Lyle Thompson, who is probably done with the PLL and just sticking to playing Sr. A box lacrosse during the summer now, last year the Cannons led the league in scoring, averaging 14.3 goals per game. The Atlas struggled last year, going 2-8 with the worst defense in the league, allowing an average of 14 goals per game. The Cannons went 3-0 against the Atlas last year, winning 19-12 in Week 4, 14-13 in Week 10, and then eliminating the Atlas with a 20-11 win in the first round of the playoffs. I don't care that the New York Atlas are "at home" to open the season, I like the Cannons to win this one, and I'll take them for half a unit at a decent price of -140.
Chaos vs. Outlaws (6/2 1:00)
Not a great game here. The Chaos were a mid tier team last year, going 5-5 on the season and they were around average on both ends of the field. The Outlaws, getting their name and the city of Denver back, are back in professional lacrosse, as the Chrome are no more. Last season after having a solid year in 2022, the Chrome were the worst team in the PLL, going 1-9 on the season. Their offense was pathetic, by far the lowest scoring team in the league. These teams only played once last year as the Chaos beat the Chrome 13-7 in the last week of the regular season. I like Carolina to win here, and although I think the price is strange at only -120, I'll take them for half a unit.
Whipsnakes vs. Atlas (6/2 3:30)
WILL UPDATE AFTER THE FIRST GAME FOR THE ATLAS ON SATURDAY
