Yesterday afternoon the Canucks let me down in their 3-2 win, not covering the puck line or their team total losing me 2.14 units. After just that one game on Easter Sunday, tonight we have a solid eight game NHL slate. Let's bounce back tonight.
Maple Leafs vs. Panthers (7:00)
Fun Atlantic Division matchup to start the night off between the #2 and #3 teams in the Division. The Leafs, coming off a 3-0 shutout win in a game they were actually outplayed in in Buffalo on Saturday, are in third place in the division, coming into tonight off two wins in a row. The Panthers are two points back from the Bruins for first in the Atlantic, but have been in a slump lately, with just two wins in their last eight games, coming off a 3-2 shootout win over the Red Wings on Saturday afternoon. These teams split their first two games, each winning at home, a 3-1 Panthers win in October and then a 2-1 shootout win for the Leafs in November. I'd lean Florida wins this one on the road, as I think they're the far better team, but not enough to bet on it. I'd also lean the under, but the best move on this game is not betting it at all.
Lightning vs. Red Wings (7:00)
Solid matchup here that I'm expecting to be a fun game in the Atlantic tonight. The Lightning, coming off a 4-1 win at home against the Islanders on Saturday are on fire, on a nine game point streak with eight wins in that span. They comfortably hold the first Wild Card spot in the East, pretty much playing for seeding with the Leafs. The Red Wings are two points back from the Capitals and Flyers for second Wild Card in the East. They haven't played well lately, on a four game losing streak, coming off a 3-2 shootout loss in Sunrise on Saturday, and having picked up just three wins in their last 15 games. Detroit won both previous games between these teams at home, winning 6-4 in October and 2-1 in January. I love the Bolts to avoid the season sweep here at home and I'll lay the juice on them for half a unit. I'd lean the over slightly but not enough to bet it.
Rangers vs. Penguins (7:00)
Pretty terrible Metro Division matchup between the top team in the NHL standings and the second worst team in the division. The Rangers, coming off a big third period for an 8-5 win in Arizona on Saturday with Chris Kreider scoring his 300th goal (twice) are on fire, extending their win streak to five in a row and they have just five losses in their last 26 games. The Penguins have been awful, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss (and loss for me) in Columbus on Saturday night. The Rags won both previous games between these teams on the road, with a 1-0 shutout in November and then a 7-4 win on March 16th. I like New York to complete the season sweep at home tonight and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd lean the over, but I'll just stick with the Rags here.
Flyers vs. Islanders (7:00)
This matchup in the Metro is pretty bad, but could have a big impact on the playoff race. The Flyers, who come into tonight's game on a four game losing streak after an embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Blackhawks at home on Saturday are on a four game losing streak, with just seven wins in their last 21 games. The Islanders are trying to chase them and they're falling behind, now five points back from Philly and Washington with the Red Wings in the mix as well, and coming off a 4-1 loss to the Lightning on Saturday, they have just two wins in their last ten games. These teams split their first two games, with the Isles winning 3-2 in the first game at home in November and the Flyers answering back with a 1-0 shootout win on Long Island three days later. I'd slightly lean the Flyers win this one at home to get out of their slump and I'd lean the under, but I'm not touching this game.
Blue Jackets vs. Avalanche (7:00)
Horrible cross conference matchup here. The Blue Jackets are by far the worst team in the East. They just ended a six game losing streak on Saturday, with a 4-3 shootout win at home against the Penguins (loser for me). They're awful on both ends of the ice. The Avalanche clinched their spot in the playoffs on Saturday night with their 7-4 win at home against the Predators. They've been fantastic. The Avs won the first game between these teams a little over a week ago with a 6-1 blowout at home and I expect a similar result here. I'll take the Avs puck line and their team total over 4 for half a unit each. I'd lean the over on the game, but I'll just stick with Colorado here.
Blues vs. Oilers (9:00)
Not a terrible Western Conference game, but this also isn't the most exciting matchup. The Blues are out of the playoffs, and although they're coming off a very disappointing 4-0 shutout loss at home to the Sharks, they've played well lately with a 7-2-1 record in their last ten games. The Oilers have been very good, comfortably in second place in the Pacific, coming into tonight's game on a three game win streak after trouncing the Ducks 6-1 on Saturday. These teams split their first two games, with the Blues winning 6-3 at home in February, and the Oilers answering back later that month with a 3-2 overtime win at home. I'd expect another Oilers win here on the road, but at -200, I think that's too steep of a price to pay for them, and I don't think they're worth buying down to regulation. I'd lean the over, but not enough to see value in betting it. I'll lay off this game.
Jets vs. Kings (9:00)
Interesting matchup in the West in this one. The Jets are still in their third place spot in the Pacific Division, but they're on a terrible stretch and I fully expect their first round exit in the playoffs. They come into tonight's game on a six game losing streak after a 3-2 loss at home to the Senators. The Kings are coming off two losses in a row, losing 4-2 in Calgary late Saturday night. These teams split their first two games, with the Kings winning 5-1 in Winnipeg in October and the Jets answering with a 5-2 win in LA in December. I'd lean the Kings win this one tonight on the road and I'd lean the over, but I'm not touching this game.
Sharks vs. Kraken (10:30)
Terrible matchup to end the night. The Sharks are the worst team in the NHL, ending a nine game losing streak on Saturday night, crushing me with a 4-0 shutout win in St. Louis, just their second win in their last 20 games. This teams brutal. The Kraken are done too, having a terrible year, but they're far better than San Jose. After two wins against the Ducks to end an eight game losing streak, Seattle was shut out 3-0 by the Stars (easy win for me). These teams split their first two games with a 7-1 Kraken win at home in November and a 2-0 Sharks win at home in January. Seattle's the far better team in this matchup and I'll take them for half a unit in regulation.
