Thanks to an absolute gift from Tage Thompson with six seconds left, I cashed my over on the only game yesterday for half a unit. Today we have a fully loaded 15 game NHL slate before just one game tomorrow for Easter. Let's keep on winning!
Panthers vs. Red Wings (12:30)
Fun Atlantic Division matchup to get the day started. The Panthers already clinched their spot in the playoffs, although they come into today's game in a slump, with just one win in their last seven games, coming off a 3-2 loss to the Islanders at home on Thursday (loss for me). The Red Wings, who are still two points back from the Caps for the second Wild Card in the East, are on a three game losing streak after getting shut out 4-0 in Carolina on Thursday (easy win for me). Florida's 2-0-1 in the season series between these teams, winning 2-0 on the road in November, losing 3-2 in overtime at home in January, and winning 4-0 in a shutout on the road earlier this month. I like the Panthers to start the day with a win at home and I'll take them in regulation for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Wild vs. Golden Knights (3:30)
This is a pretty good afternoon matchup in the West. The Wild are playing solid hockey right now, but have had a disappointing season, likely missing the playoffs. Coming off a 3-1 win against San Jose on Thursday (puck line winner), they've gone 7-1-3 in their last eleven games. The Golden Knights are playing very well lately, a point ahead of the Kings for third in the Pacific, with a 7-2-1 record in their last ten games as they come off a big 4-1 win in Winnipeg on Thursday. Minnesota won the first game between these teams 5-3 in Vegas in February. I'd lean the Knights, who are the better team here, get the win today and I'd lean the under, but not enough to bet either, so I'll lay off this game completely.
Oilers vs. Ducks (4:00)
Horrendous matchup in the Pacific in this game. The Oilers, coming off a 4-1 win against the Kings on Thursday, are very good this season, in second place in the division, although they have been a bit inconsistent lately. The Ducks on the other hand are one of the worst teams in the NHL. They're on a three game losing streak with just one win in their last eleven games. Edmonton is 3-0 this season against Anaheim, to no surprise to anyone. They've won 8-2, 7-2, and 5-3. I fully expect them to complete the season sweep at home. Obviously the books do as well, with the moneyline on this game at -550. Even the puck line is too expensive at like -205. I'll take the Oilers team total over 4 for a unit. I'd lean the over on the game, considering that Edmonton could hit that alone, but not enough to bet it.
Avalanche vs. Predators (6:00)
Great Western Conference playoff matchup in this game. The Avalanche are three points behind the Stars for first place in the Central Division, coming off two losses in a row after a nine game win streak, losing 2-1 to the Habs on Tuesday and 3-2 in a shootout against the Rangers on Thursday. The Predators have been the hottest team in the NHL the last month, and finally had their 17 game point streak come to an end on Thursday, shockingly losing 8-4 in Arizona, just their third loss in the their last 18 games. Although I think the Avs are the better team here, the Preds won both previous games between these teams in Smashville, winning 4-3 in November and then 5-1 earlier this month. I'd lean Colorado avoids the season sweep and gets the win here, and I'd slightly lean the under, but no way I'm betting this game. Should be an incredible one to watch.
Coyotes vs. Rangers (6:00)
This cross conference game doesn't look great. The Coyotes have five wins in their last seven games and they're playing pretty well lately, coming off an 8-4 win against the Preds on Thursday that ended Nashville's 18 game point streak. But Arizona has struggled on the season. The Rangers on the other hand have been fantastic, currently in first place in the NHL. They're on a four game win streak with just five losses in their last 25 games. When these teams played in MSG in the first week of the season, the Rags got a 2-1 win at home. I like them to win this one again in easier fashion and I'll lay the -192 on them for a unit. I'd lean the over, but I'll stay off it.
Sabres vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
It's always fun when the Sabres and Leafs play in this Atlantic Division rivalry on the QEW. This will be the fourth and final game between these teams this season, with my Sabres leading the season series 2-0-1, winning 6-4 in Toronto in November, blowing out the Leafs 9-3 at home in December, and losing 2-1 in overtime on the road earlier this month. Last night the Sabres bounced back from Wednesday's embarrassing 6-2 loss to the Sens, erasing a 2-0 deficit with a 5-2 win at home against the Devils on the back of Tage Thompson's four goal night. Absolute gift from Tage to cash that over for me with six seconds left in the game. That win really meant nothing though, since we're missing the playoffs. The Leafs are the far better team this year, in the third place spot in the Division, coming off a 5-1 win against the Caps on Thursday. With the Sabres in the second half of a back to back here, I'd lean the Leafs get the win here on the road to tie up the season series, and I do see some value in it though at just -155 on a game that I'd handicap around -195, but I'm not betting against my team against our biggest rival, who we've had success against this season. What a run on sentence that was. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet it. Let's Go Buffalo!
Canadiens vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
This is a pretty bad Eastern Conference matchup between one of the worst teams in the division vs. one of the best. The Hurricanes have been fantastic this season, comfortably in second place in the Metro Division with their spot in the playoffs already clinched. After a 4-1 loss in Pittsburgh on Tuesday where they should have won, they bounced back on Thursday shutting out the Red Wings in a 4-0 win at home. The Habs have been terrible this season, tied with Ottawa for last in the Atlantic, but they come into tonight's game on a pretty impressive three game win streak, beating the Flyers, Avs, and Kraken. Carolina won both previous games between these teams at home, winning 5-3 in December and 4-1 earlier this month. I like them to end Montreal's win streak with an easy win tonight as they try to chase down the Rags for first place in the Metro. The price is expensive here on the moneyline but I'll take the Canes in regulation for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but not enough to bet it, especially not at 5.5.
Lightning vs. Islanders (7:00)
Quite the interesting matchup here down in Tampa in the Eastern Conference tonight with this one. The Lightning are on fire, comfortably in the first Wild Card spot in the East. Coming off a 3-1 win at home against the Bruins on Wednesday night, they're on an eight game point streak with just one loss in that span. The Islanders are fighting for an outside shot at the second Wild Card, trying to chase down the Caps, who are four points ahead of them and the Red Wings. They're in a pretty big slump though with just two wins in their last nine games, coming off a 3-2 win on the road against the Panthers on Thursday. These teams split their two earlier games on Long Island in February, with the Isles winning 6-2 at home and the Bolts answering back with a 4-2 win on the road. Tampa's the better team here and they're playing better right now, and I like them to win this one at home. I'll take the Lightning for half a unit. I'd lean the over slightly, but not enough to even consider betting it.
Flyers vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
This is a pretty terrible, boring cross conference matchup tonight. The Flyers have been in a slump lately, still hanging onto their third place spot in the Metro by a point over the second Wild Card Caps, so they're still very much in danger to miss the playoffs. They have to win games. They're coming into tonight on a three game losing streak after. 4-1 loss in Montreal on Thursday. The Blackhawks, coming off getting shut out 2-0 by the Sens on Thursday, are one of the worst teams in the NHL. Philly won the first game between these teams 3-1 in Chicago last month and I expect them to get a much needed win tonight at home. I'll take them in regulation for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but I'm not betting that.
Capitals vs. Bruins (7:00)
Solid matchup here in the East. The Capitals, coming off a 5-1 loss to the Leafs on Thursday had a three game win streak come to an end. They're holding the second Wild Card spot in the East, two points ahead of Detroit and four ahead of the Islanders, but they're just a point back from the Flyers for third place in the Metro. The Bruins hold onto first place in the Atlantic with a two point lead over Florida. They have just one win though in their last four games, coming off a 3-1 loss in Tampa on Wednesday. The Caps actually shut out the B's in the first game these teams played in February 3-0 in Boston. I'd lean the Bruins answer back here with a win on the road in DC, and I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet either. I'll stay off this game completely.
Blue Jackets vs. Penguins (7:00)
Horrible matchup between the two worst teams in the Metro Division in the second half of a home and home as the Pens look to complete the season sweep here on the road. On Thursday Pittsburgh won 3-2 after previously this season beating the Jackets 5-3 both on the road in November and earlier this month at home. The Blue Jackets are awful, by far the worst team in the East, coming into tonight on a six game losing streak with just one win in their last ten games. The Penguins, despite being the second worst team in the Division are 16 points ahead of Columbus, and come into tonight off two wins in a row. I like the Pens to complete the season sweep here on the road and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd lean the over, but I'll just stick with Pittsburgh here.
Jets vs. Senators (7:00)
Not a great game in this cross conference matchup. The Jets are a very good team this season, in third place in the Central Division but they come into tonight's game on their biggest slump of the year, a five game losing streak after a 4-1 loss at home to the Golden Knights on Thursday. The Senators on the other hand are tied with Montreal for the worst in the Atlantic Division, but come into tonight's game on a four game win streak after a 2-0 win against Chicago on Thursday. Winnipeg needed OT for the first game between these teams, winning 2-1 on the road in Ottawa back in January. I like the Jets to win again here to get out of their slump and I'll take them in regulation for half a unit. I'd lean the under slightly, but not enough to bet it.
Blues vs. Sharks (8:00)
Terrible game in the West. The Blues haven't had a great season, getting hot too late to really have any shot at making the playoffs, but they're playing really well right now, with a 7-1-1 record in their last nine games after a 5-3 win against the Flames on Thursday (winner for me). The Sharks meanwhile are the worst team in the NHL, coming into tonight on a nine game losing streak with just one win in their last 19 games after a 3-1 loss in Minnesota on Thursday (puck line winner for me). San Jose shockingly dominated the first game between these teams 5-1 at home in November. This should be an easy win for St. Louis at home tonight and I'll take them in regulation for a unit. I'd lean the under, but I'm not touching that.
Flames vs. Kings (10:00)
Not a terrible matchup in the Pacific Division. The Flames are in a slump right now, out of the playoffs and on a five game losing streak with just two wins in their last ten games, coming off a 5-3 loss in St. Louis on Thursday. The Kings are in the second Wild Card spot in the West, a point back from Vegas for third in the Pacific. They had a four game win streak come to an end with their 4-1 loss in Edmonton on Thursday night, but have played well lately with a 9-4-1 record in their last 14 games. These teams split their first two games this year, with the Kings winning 5-3 at home in December and the Flames answering back with a 4-2 win at home in February. I like LA to get the win here to bounce back from Thursday's loss. The Flames are extinguished. I'd lean the over slightly, but didn't even consider betting it.
Kraken vs. Stars (10:00)
Not the best Western Conference matchup to end tonight's slate. The Stars lead the Western Conference, three points ahead of the Avalanche and they're on fire right now, coming into tonight's game on a six game win streak with eleven wins in their last 13 games after a 3-1 win in Vancouver on Thursday. The Kraken haven't been great this season, but ended an eight game losing streak this week with two wins against the shitty Ducks. Dallas needed OT in the first game between these teams back in December, winning 4-3 at home. I like them to win again tonight on the road and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd very slightly lean the under, but no way I'm betting it at 5.5 with the Stars trending over that every game.
