I bounced back from a lousy Sunday winning my only NHL play last night for half a unit on the Golden Knights, beating the Blues in overtime. After just two games last night, tonight we have a huge twelve game slate. Let's start a win streak tonight!
Panthers vs. Bruins (7:00)
Great game to get the slate started in the Atlantic, between the two best teams in the division, tied at the top of the Atlantic. Both of these teams have scenarios where they can clinch playoff spots tonight. The Panthers ended a four game losing streak on Sunday with a 4-1 win in Philly. The Bruins are coming off two losses in a row, losing 3-2 in Philly on Saturday and 5-2 at home to the Rangers on Thursday, The Bruins won both previous games between these teams, winning 3-2 in overtime at home in October and then 3-1 on the road in Florida in November. I'd lean the Panthers win this one at home and the under, but not enough to bet this game. Should be fantastic to watch.
Rangers vs. Flyers (7:00)
This should be a pretty good Metro Division matchup here with both of these teams currently in playoff spots. The Rangers lead the division and can clinch a spot in the playoffs tonight, a point ahead of the Canes. They're playing really well recently, with seven wins in their last nine games, coming off a big 4-3 shootout win against the Panthers on Saturday. The Flyers are hanging onto a two point lead over the Capitals and they're in a bit of a slump right now. Coming off a 4-1 loss at home to the Panthers on Sunday, they've won just seven of their last 18 games. The Rags won both previous games between these teams on the road, winning 3-1 in November and then 2-1 in February. I like the Rangers to win again tonight at home in MSG and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Penguins vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
Not the best matchup here in the Metro Division. The Hurricanes are fantastic, now just a point back from the Rangers to lead the Division and there's scenarios where they can clinch a playoff spot tonight. Coming off a 2-1 win against the Leafs on Sunday, they're on a seven game point streak with just two losses in their last eleven games. The Penguins, coming off blowing a 4-0 lead to the Avs and losing 5-4 in overtime, have been awful this year with just three wins in their last 14 games. Carolina's 2-0-1 in the three previous games between these teams, winning 4-2 at home in November, losing 2-1 in a shootout on the road in December, and winning 3-2 at home in overtime. I love them to win here again tonight and I'll take the Canes for a unit, laying the -186. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Capitals vs. Red Wings (7:00)
Huge matchup here in the East that could have big playoff implications for both of these teams, both vying for the second Wild Card spot and separated by just a point in the standings, with the Caps currently holding a point lead for that spot. They're both playing well right now. The Capitals, coming off a 3-0 shutout win against the Jets on Sunday, have five wins in their last six games. The Red Wings after a terrible losing streak, have since won three of their last five games, coming off a 1-0 shutout loss in Nashville on Saturday. In the first game between these teams last month, the Red Wings won 8-3 at home. I'd lean the Caps answer back with a win here at home, and I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet either. I'll lay off this game entirely.
Maple Leafs vs. Devils (7:30)
Kind of an interesting, while not great, matchup. The Leafs are still holding a four point lead over the Lightning, and although they're coming off a 2-1 loss in Carolina on Sunday, they're playing pretty well lately. The Devils have sucked this season, but do come into tonight's game with three wins in their last four games, coming off a 4-0 shutout win against the Isles on Sunday. I like Toronto to win this game at home and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Predators vs. Golden Knights (8:00)
This should be a really solid match tonight between the two Western Conference Wild Card teams, who are both playing really well lately. The Predators, coming off two shutout wins in a row, beating the Red Wings 1-0 on Saturday, and a 3-0 win in Florida on Thursday, extending their point streak to 17 straight games, with just two losses in that span. The Golden Knights are in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 2-1 win in St. Louis in OT last night (winner for me) and they've won six of their last eight games. These teams split their two previous games in Vegas this season, with the Knights winning 4-1 at home in January and then the Preds answering back with a 5-3 win on the road in February. With the Knights in the second half of a back to back, I'd lean the Preds win this one at home and the under, but not enough to bet either. I'll stay off this game completely.
Jets vs. Oilers (8:00)
This should be a pretty good Western Conference matchup between these two playoff teams. The Jets, who are in third place in the Central, are on a three game losing streak, coming off a 3-0 loss in Washington on Sunday. The Oilers are coming off two losses in a row, giving up a ton of goals in Ontario, losing 5-3 to the Sens on Sunday and 6-3 in Toronto on Saturday. I think the better offense for the Oilers and better defense and goaltending for the Jets makes this a very compelling game. They split their first two games this year, with the Jets winning 3-2 in OT in Edmonton in October, and the Oilers answering back in Winnipeg with a 3-1 win in November. I'd lean the Oilers and the under in this game, but not enough to bet either. I'll lay off this game.
Blackhawks vs. Flames (8:30)
Such a boring game in this one. The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL, awful on both ends of the ice. They are coming off a 5-4 overtime win on Saturday in San Jose, against the other worst team in the league. The Flames aren't having a great season but are much better. They come into tonight on a three game losing streak after a boring 4-1 loss at home to the Sabres on Sunday night. These teams split their first two games this season, with the Blackhawks winning 4-3 at home in January and the Flames answering back with a 1-0 shutout win at home. Calgary's the way better team here and I like them to get the win tonight, which I'll take for half a unit to end their losing streak. I'd slightly lean the over, but not enough to even consider betting it.
Avalanche vs. Canadiens (9:00)
This is a huge cross conference mismatch. The Avs pulled off a huge comeback in impressive fashion on Sunday afternoon, digging themselves out of a 4-0 hole against the Penguins with five straight goals to win 5-4 in overtime on Jonathan Drouin's game winner. That win extended Colorado's win streak to nine straight games as they're tied with the Stars to lead the Central. The Habs on the other hand have been awful, with just four wins in their last 17 games, ending a four game losing streak on Sunday with a 5-1 win in Seattle. Montreal shockingly won the first game between these teams with a 4-3 win at home in January. I love the Avs to answer back here, and so do the books with the moneyline at -450. I'll take their puck line though for a unit. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Coyotes vs. Blue Jackets (10:00)
Terrible matchup here. Both of these teams have been awful this season. The Coyotes, coming off a 4-2 loss at home to the Stars on Sunday haven't played all that terrible lately, with three wins in their last five games, but they have just six wins in their last 26 games. The Blue Jackets are on a four game losing streak, coming off a 4-2 loss in Vegas on Saturday, and the worst team in the East, with just one win in their last eight games. The Yotes won the first game between these 3-2 on the road in November. I'd lean Arizona wins this one too, but I don't think they're worth betting on at -165, nor do I think the over, which I'd also lean, is worth betting. I'll lay off this one.
Kraken vs. Ducks (10:00)
This is such a boring game in the Pacific. Both of these teams are playing terrible hockey right now and having lousy season. The Kraken, coming off a 5-1 loss at home to the Habs on Sunday, are on an eight game losing streak. The Ducks, coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Lightning at home on Sunday (loss for me since I had the Bolts in regulation), have just one win in their last nine games (which was against the shitty Blackhawks). Seattle won the first game between these teams 3-2 on the road in Anaheim back in December. I'd lean the Kraken win this one at home, but it isn't worth the -210 on them, or worth buying down to regulation only. I'd also lean the under, but the best move here to me is no play at all.
Sharks vs. Stars (10:30)
Another gigantic mismatch in the West to close out the night. The first two games between these teams this year were shockingly close, with the Stars winning both, but needing overtime for both of those wins earlier this month, winning 3-2 in a shootout at home, and then 7-6 in overtime on the road. Dallas has been fantastic this season, coming into tonight's game on a four game win streak after a 4-2 win in Arizona on Sunday (for Ice-Con) and they have nine wins in their last eleven games, tied with the Avs for first in the Central. The Sharks on the other hand are one of the worst teams in the NHL, on a seven game losing streak after losing 5-4 in overtime at home on Saturday to the Blackhawks, the other worst team in the league, and they have just one win in their last 17 games. I like the Stars to win here, most likely in much easier fashion than the first two games, and likely in blowout fashion. The prices on this game are nuts, but I'll take the Stars puck line for half a unit. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
