The World Bodybuilding Federation was a bodybuilding organization launched by Vince McMahon in Autumn of 1990. McMahon wanted to make bodybuilding more mainstream by promoting the organization heavily on World Wrestling Federation television and in WWF publications.
The WBF would feature traditional posing routines from the bodybuilders, but add a theatrical twist into the mix with each bodybuilder being given some type of hype video or props to use on stage in order to set them apart.
In addition, McMahon signed well known, mainstream bodybuilding personalities to join the WBF roster. Chief among there were television star Lou Ferrigno and former WCW star Lex Luger. Ultimately, neither man would end up competing in the organization before it was shuttered.
The WBF held two championship events between 1991 and 1992, but would cease operations before 1992 was over due to financial losses.
