Yet another losing night for me on the NHL last night, going 1-3 to get crushed (again with a regulation loss where the team I bet won anyway), losing 3.45 units. Tonight we've got a giant slate with twelve games. Let's see if we could get a winning night on leap day.
I'm limiting myself to half unit bets ONLY for the rest of the season unless I get hot. It's impossible to win in this league. This is by far the worst NHL year I've ever had and it's not even close. This has been fucking brutal. I'm also writing way shorter breakdowns of each game. If you want the stats, history, and shit, look it up. I'm just giving my thoughts on each game in a sentence or two. Fuck it.
Bruins vs. Golden Knights (7:00)
This should be a really solid matchup tonight. Even with the significant injuries for Vegas, I expect this to be another close grind of a game like the 2-1 overtime win for the Knights at home in January was. I'd lean the Bruins answer back at home and the under again, but not enough to bet either. I'll lay off this game entirely.
Maple Leafs vs. Coyotes (7:00)
Huge mismatch in this cross conference game. These teams just played eight days ago with Auston Matthews getting his 50th (and 51st) goal in his hometown in a 6-3 blowout win in Arizona. Toronto's been on fire lately, but just had a seven game win streak come to an end with a 6-2 loss to Vegas on Tuesday. The Coyotes have been awful, coming into tonight on a 13 game losing streak. I like the Leafs to win again here. The moneyline is too expensive for me. I considered taking them in regulation for but I like their team total better, which I'll take for half a unit. I like the over too, which I'll take for half a unit as well.
Red Wings vs. Islanders (7:00)
This matchup isn't great but I see some solid value on the Red Wings at just -115. They're rolling right now, on a six game win streak off an 8-3 blowout win against the Caps on Tuesday. The Isles aren't great and they're not playing all that well lately, which make the price not make much sense to me. Detroit won the first game between these teams back in October in overtime 4-3 on the road on Long Island. I like them to win again at home and I'll take them for half a unit at far too cheap of a price. I'd lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Lightning vs. Sabres (7:00)
Not a great game here for my Sabres, although we have played well lately. I like the Lightning to bounce back from their loss on Tuesday in Philly, and I'll bet against my boys and take the Bolts for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Panthers vs. Canadiens (7:00)
Huge Atlantic Division mismatch here between one of the worst teams and one of the best times in the East. Both game between these teams previously this season were blowout wins for Florida and I expect that to continue. I'll take the Panthers in regulation for half a unit. I looked at the puck line, but I think that regulation is the better move here. I'd very slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Blue Jackets vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
This is another huge mismatch in the Central. The Hurricanes should smoke Columbus here on the road. I'll take the Canes in regulation for half a unit. I'd slightly lean the under but not enough to bet that.
Predators vs. Wild (8:00)
This is a pretty fun and interesting matchup in the Central. Both of these teams are playing really well lately but haven't been great on the season. I'd very slightly lean Smashville wins at home and the under, but not enough to even consider betting it. I'll lay off this game entirely.
Stars vs. Jets (8:00)
GREAT matchup here in the Central between the two teams tied for first in the division. The Stars won both previous games between these teams this season, but coming off a 5-1 loss in Colorado on Tuesday, they're in a slump right now with just one win in their last seven games. The Jets are playing great hockey right now, rolling into tonight on a four game win streak. I think this is a bit of a coin flip with the better offense for Dallas and the better defense for Winnipeg. I'll lay off this game entirely, but its easily the best game on the slate.
Blackhawks vs. Avalanche (9:00)
Huge mismatch in the Central here. The Blackhawks are the worst team in the NHL while the Avs have been fantastic. Although they split their first two games with the Avs winning 4-0 and then the Blackhawks answering with a 3-2 win at home, I expect this matchup for Colorado to be much closer to that first game, winning in a blowout, this time on the road. I'll take the Avalanche in regulation for half a unit. I'd slightly lean the under, but I'll just stay off it.
Canucks vs. Kings (10:00)
This Pacific Division matchup should be great tonight. Both of these teams are in mini slumps right now but they've both been very good on the season, with the Canucks leading the NHL, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Penguins on Tuesday (losing my biggest play of the night and swung the night to losing, and the Kings holding the first Wild Card spot in the West. I'd lean the Canucks win at home and slightly lean the under here, but not enough to bet either. I'll lay off this game completely.
Kraken vs. Penguins (10:00)
Interesting cross conference matchup here with both of these sub par teams playing similar styles of hockey, with horrible offenses but great defenses for both teams. The under cashed easily in the first game with a 3-0 shutout win for the Pens at home in January. I'd slightly lean the Kraken answer back here with a win at home, but not enough to bet it. I do like the under though, which I'll take at the alternate line of 6 for half a unit.
Sharks vs. Ducks (10:30)
This matchup blows. These two California teams are two of the worst three teams in the league. I think the Ducks are the very slightly better team in this matchup, but with them on the road, I don't see any edge in betting this game. You don't make any money betting the third worst team in the league. I'd very slightly lean the over, but no edge in betting that either.
