The topic of women in MMA has been in the news of late and as the sport's biggest and best news organization, we feel it's time to join in. With the question of whether women should even be allowed in the UFC up for discussion, we turn to two UFC champions to give their opinion on the issue:
Point: Women Belong In The UFC (Raquel Pennington)
It's frustrating that in 2024 this is even up for discussion. Women have been in the UFC for more than a decade. We are training in the same rooms and training just as hard as the men out there. As seeing women on the mats has become more and more normal in martial arts gyms we're seeing better and better fighters and deeper and deeper divisions and when you look at the talent already on offer that's really exciting not just for where the sport is now but where it's headed. The best women in MMA are every bit as technical as their male counterparts and there's simply no good reason to say we shouldn't be provided an opportunity in the sport's biggest promotion.
Counterpoint: Women Do Not Belong In The UFC (Sean Strickland)
[Note from the editor: Our writers regretfully neglected the assignment brief and failed to solicit the opinion of a UFC champion, choosing instead to speak to a contender. We regret this error and will not be disrespecting the format by including the thoughts of someone who fails to meet the qualifications. The offending staff have been relieved of their duties.]
