Last night the Preds blew a 3-0 first period lead to lose in overtime, making me go 1-1 on the NHL to lose 0.52 units on the only game of the night. Annoying to not sweep again, which ends a four day win streak to me. Let's bounce back on tonight's two game slate!
Blues vs. Blue Jackets (8:00)
Kind of a lousy cross conference matchup to start off tonight's slate. The Blues have played really solid hockey lately, getting themselves into a Wild Card spot in the West as they've now won five games in a row. They're coming off their 4-3 overtime win against the Kings on Sunday (winner for me), their fourth game with that exact score in a row, the last three all in OT. The Blue Jackets, coming off a 4-2 loss to the Kraken on Sunday (winner for me to sweep the night), have been awful. They're the worst team in the Metro, by a significant margin and have just one win in their last five games. Statistically the Blues haven't been all that great on either end of the ice, but they're way better than the Jackets defensively. Columbus won the first game between these teams 5-2 and I like the Blues to answer back at home tonight. I'll take St. Louis for a unit. I like the over as well, which I'll take for half a unit. I considered the Blues team total over, but like playing it this way better.
Sharks vs. Kraken (10:30)
Pretty big mismatch in the Pacific Division. The Sharks are easily the worst team in the NHL, but they've played oaky lately. They're coming off a 5-2 loss to my Sabres on Saturday afternoon that ended their three game win streak and four game point streak. San Jose has been the worst team in the NHL on both ends of the ice. The Kraken are right in the Wild Card mix and after a little bit of a slump, they've since picked up at least a point in each of their last three games with two wins in that span, coming off beating the Blue Jackets 4-2 on Monday night (winner for me). Seattle's been very good defensively this year, but they've struggled offensively. In the first game between these teams this year that wasn't the case though, as they blew out the Sharks 7-1. I love the Kraken here and I'll take them in regulation for 1.5 units. I'll also take the Sharks team total under 2.5 in regulation for half a unit.
