Awesome game for the Sugar Bowl tonight with #2 Texas taking on #3 Texas at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans to face the winner of Michigan/Alabama in the National Championship.
Washington was the final PAC-12 Champion, with the conference going away next year as they went an impressive 13-0 and finishing the season with a 34-31 win over Oregon in a game they dominated, winning both games in that season series. They'll go to the Big Ten next year.
Washington's been awesome offensively this year, ranking tenth in the nation as they've scored an average of 37.7 points per game. Michael Penix was a Heisman candidate all season and they have one of the best wide receiver cores in the country led by Rome Odunze. Their passing offense has gone for an average of 343.8 yards and 2.7 touchdowns per game. On the ground they've rushed for an average of 125.2 yards and 2 touchdowns per game. Defensively the Huskies haven't been all that great, allowing an average of 23.6 points per game, ranking 51st in the country. They've allowed an average of 263.2 passing yards and 133.8 rushing yards per game.
Texas is finally back. The Longhorns, led by Quinn Ewers play at quarterback went 12-1 this season, leaving the Big 12 with a dominant 49-21 win against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship on Saturday. They had four wins against ranked teams, beating #18 Oklahoma State, #23 Kansas State, #24 Kansas, and their biggest win, a 34-24 win on the road in Tuscaloosa against #4 Alabama. They'll join the SEC next season.
Texas has been very good on both sides of the ball this year. They've scored an average of 36.2 points per game, ranking 15th offensively in the country. Quinn Ewers and the passing offense has averaged 286.8 yards per game, throwing for an average of 1.8 touchdowns. The Longhorns rushing offense has averaged 189.1 yards and 2 touchdowns per game on the ground. The Texas defense has been even better, ranking an eleventh in the nation as they've allowed an average of just 17.5 points per game. They've allowed an average of 240.8 passing yards and have been especially good in their rushing defense, allowing an average of just 80.8 rushing yards per game.
I like the Longhorns to win this game today, with a much better defense. I expect them to win this game and advance to the Natty with a win. I'll take Texas, buying the hook down to -3 for 1.5 units.
I also like the over, which I'll take for half a unit, boosted to +110 on BetRivers.
There are several player props I like as well on this game. I think the Texas passing offense tears it up here and Quinn Ewers and Xavier Worthy lead the way, so I will take the overs on both Ewers' passing yards and Worthy's receiving yards for half a unit each. The other play I like is on the Washington side. I expect Texas to have a lead and Washington will have to throw the ball, since the Longhorns defense will shut down their ability to run the ball. I'll take one of the top receivers in the country and Michael Penix' top target, Rome Odunze over 96.5 yards receiving for half a unit as well.
Texas is back! Horns Up!!
Bets
1.5u Texas -3 (-129)
.5u Texas/Washington over 62 (+110)
.5u Quin Ewers over 288.5 yards passing (-118)
.5u Xavier Worthy over 69.5 yards receiving (-122)
.5u Rome Odunze over 96.5 yards receiving (-118)
