The College Football Playoff begins today with a fantastic match at the Rose Bowl as #1 Michigan takes on #4 Alabama for the chance to advance to the National Championship.
Michigan's season was filled with drama this season, with head coach Jim Harbaugh getting suspended twice this year and the Connor Stallions sign stealing scandal completely taking over the college football world. The Wolverines still finished the season ranked #1 with a perfect 13-0 record. After defeating Ohio State 30-24 in their last regular season game on Rivalry Week, they followed that up with a cakewalk of a 26-0 win in the Big Ten Championship.
The Wolverines have been very good on both sides of the ball this season. They ranked 12th offensively in the nation, scoring an average of 36.7 points per game. Quarterback JJ McCarthy has lead their passing offense, averaging 218.8 yards per game in the air and 1.6 passing touchdowns per game. They rely heavily on the run, with Blake Corum leading the way. Michigan averages 161.8 yards rushing and 2.7 touchdowns per game. Defensively the Wolverines are the best team in the nation, allowing an average of only 9.5 points per game. They've limited their opponents to only 152.6 yards in the air and 87.1 yards on the ground.
Alabama didn't have their best start to the season, taking a loss early, losing 34-24 to #3 ranked Texas at home in Tuscaloosa in Week 2. They rallied after that though and even though they didn't look great all season, with some close calls at time, including a miracle play to beat Auburn during the Iron Bowl, they won the SEC West to advance to the SEC Championship, where they pulled off a huge win, beating Georgia 27-24, knocking off the back to back champs to make the College Football Playoff as the #4 seed.
Nick Saban's the best coach in college football history and you can never count him out, but this has been a bit of a down season for the Tide, which is strange to say for them when they only have one loss and are still in the College Football Playoff. Offensively they've scored an average of 35.1, ranking 16th in the nation. Their passing offense and Jalen Milroe have averaged 228.5 yards passing and an average of 1.8 touchdowns in the air. They've rushed for an average of 172.7 yards per game and 2.3 rushing touchdowns.
I've said the entire season that this is Michigan's year because it couldn't be more hilarious for the entire college football world to get taken over by the Connor Stallions saga and then the Wolverines winning the National Championship. They have a stellar defense and I think Jalen Milroe isn't great and the Bama offense will struggle. I'll take Michigan for a unit.
I'd slightly lean the over, but I'd rather just stay off the total in this game, since I see it ending up having between 40-50 points.
Another play I like is Jalen Milroe's longest rush to be over 15.5 yards. The Michigan defense is going to put pressure on him and think he ends up getting out of it at some point with a long rush. He's passed this number in four of his last six games.
GO BLUE!
Bets
1u Michigan ML (-126)
.5u Jalen Milroe longest rush over 15.5 yards (-122)
