Boxing fans around the world have voiced their anger after promoter Frank Warren appeared to reveal that the impending Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk bout would cost a record amount on pay-per-view.
Fury, who beat Derek Chisora three weeks ago, mapped out his plans for the future just moments after that victory when he went face-to-face with Usyk ringside. The Gypsy King hurled insults at the Ukrainian fighter, challenging him to a future fight before calling out Joe Joyce as well.
Reports have emerged that Fury and Usyk are finally set to fight after heavy rumours suggesting such down the years, especially with the former having beaten Anthony Joshua twice within the space of a year, to assert his dominance as the second-best boxer in the world. But fans have been left outraged after Warren hinted at a potential hike in price for the PPV event.
"It depends what the structure of the deal is. If the broadcaster has put up some sort of guarantee, then obviously they're looking to recover the guarantee which will determine the price," Warren said on talkSPORT.
"If there isn't a guarantee and it's done on a share basis, then that determines what the price will be.
"I mean, with the four belts on the line, without discussing it with anyone, I'm sure the price will go up. The same with if Tyson has fought AJ, the price would have gone up. They are the two big money fights."
Likely to be held in the Middle East or Wembley, Fury vs Usyk would be a fight for the ages, so a high price is expected. However, with Fury's previous clash with Chisora - a fight he was expected to win - costing £26.95, it is likely that the fight could go north of £30
And fans reacted poorly to the decision, with the general consensus being that they were being ripped off with extortionate prices.
