In a world of heavily marketed diets and quick fat loss programmes, weight loss comes with a lot of mis-information. Here's how you actually lose weight and still be eat what you want.
There is no such thing as healthy or unhealthy food. You can eat anything you want.
There is small catch, though. Yes you can eat whatever you want, but you need to know how much to eat and when you can eat it. You can't eat burgers and ice cream all day every day and expect to lose weight. You can, however, eat a doughnut every day and still lose weight.
The number one reason why most people fail with trying to lose weight is restriction.
I believe that losing weight shouldn't be a process of suffering where you deprive yourself of delicious food. That's old news now. Simply keeping a food diary and being conscious of everything you eat can open up doors that you never dreamed of being open.
I think it's pretty much common knowledge that if you want to lose weight then you have to eat less food, stop eating what you want to, and live off of salads. This is completely incorrect.
It really is as simple as being in a calorie deficit and moving your body.
anything in moderation
I'm a big advocate for eating for health AND happiness. This can be seen in my food diary with frequent McDonald's hash browns and M&S Yumnuts.
Anyone that tells you to stop eating something isn't helping. All that "advice" is doing is piling on your misery.
Weight loss Diet culture isn't working
Diets are heavily marketed. 90% of people trying to sell you a diet just care about the money that you're going to give them, not about you losing weight.
"Clubs" like Slimming World are just cults. You don't need to pay people to lose weight, you already have the answers. It's ok if you want to pay someone as a way of staying accountable, though.
It all boils down to conscious eating if you want to lose weight. Rather than just eating whatever is right in front of you, think about it. Think about how this bit of food or drink is going to fuel your body and mind, and how it's going to make you feel afterwards.
No one feels good after eating a whole pizza to themselves. But it feels SO good when you are eating it. It just takes a switch from how am I feeling now to how am I going to feel after.
"Exercises for weight loss"
If you ever see "exercises for weight loss" as a title, RUN!
There is no specific exercise for weight loss. Anyone who tells you to do an exercise with the purpose of losing weight either doesn't know what they're talking about, or doesn't actually want to help you.
You don't need to be running 10 miles a day or spending every day sweating buckets in the gym. Calories can be burnt in whatever way you enjoy most. If you played sports as a kid and want to get back into it. Great! Get involved with a sports club for both physical and mental benefits. If you enjoy going for walks. Great! A 30-minute walk is enough to burn a few 100 calories.
10,000 steps per day (or as close to 10,000 as you can) and 3 hours of exercise per week is are good guidelines regardless of your fitness level.
Conclusion
Don't be in a rush to lose weight. I say that because you simply cannot rush the process of losing weight healthily.
Focus on your calorie intake (work out your how many calories you need per day here), regular exercise, and taking care of your body. We all only have one body, so lets live our best lives with it!
