LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Reggie Jackson delivered a game-winning layup with 4.1 seconds remaining to help the Los Angeles Clippers defeat the LA Lakers, 111-110. The Clippers' record .500 mark on the season while the Lakers record falls three games below .500 with a loss.
Back And Fourth Final Quarter
The Clippers entered the fourth quarter with a 12-point lead but would allow it to quickly dwindle as the Lakers made a comeback, eventually taking a one-point lead on a Russell Westbrook jumper with 1:03 remaining.
Both teams scored a combined 12 points in the final minute of the fourth quarter. It started with Reggie Jackson's mid-range jumper, giving the Clippers a one-point lead. Malik Monk would deliver a three-pointer moments later, giving the Lakers the lead right back.
Following a Clippers timeout, Marcus Morris responded with a corner three of his own, marking the third lead change in three possessions.
With no timeouts remaining, point guard Reggie Jackson was forced to take the ball all the way up the court, spin through the lane and finish what would be the game-winning layup. Anthony Davis had a chance to win the game for the Lakers on a driving layup, but it rolled out of the basket, sealing the Clippers' victory.
Marcus Morris Big Day, Efficient Shooting Day All-Around
Marcus Morris was the driving force for the Clippers, ending with a team-high 29 points on 6 of 7 shooting from three-point range and delivered timely baskets in the fourth quarter to secure a win.
Serge Ibaka added 25 points on an efficient 9 for 15 shooting.
Reggie Jackson started slow, but went on to score 23 of his 25 points in the second half, including the game-winner.
The Clippers led by as much as 16 points in a game with 17 lead changes total. It would have been a disastrous finish if not for Jackson and his second-half outburst.
Davis Scores 30, Game Winner Rims Out
Anthony Davis has stepped up as LeBron James recovers from injury, delivering big performance after big performance since the King went down. Thursday night was no different; Davis finished with 25+ points for the fourth consecutive game as he finished with a game-high 30 points. Howwver, when they needed a bucket most from Davis, he just came up short as his potential game-winner went in and out.
The Lakers bench unit scored just 22 points, largely due to Carmelo Anthony missing the second half with a hamstring injury.
Malik Monk provided a considerable boost for the Lakers, ending the game with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
Russell Westbrook finished the game with 17 points.
