I think PWI ( Pro Wrestling Illustrated) made a mistake in picking Kenny Omega as wrestler of the year, and this say isn't to disrespect Kenny Omega. For he did have a great year, but he was no way near the level Roman was on because in 2021 Roman Reigns stood alone as the reigning WWE Universe Champion. He was the one that moved the needle.
Ever since August 30, 2020 at Payback Roman Reigns has held the WWE Universal title for 489 days, and currently he is number 9 for having 651 plus days as champion with 5 reigns and 24 defenses. Along with holding the WWE Universal championship twice he has held the WWE championship three times.
With his current Universal title run he has defended it against former champions, legends, and WWE Hall Of Famers. He's basically smashed The Who's Who of professional wrestling. He's defeated The Fiend, Brau Strowman, Finn Balor/Demon, Edge, Daniel Bryant, Drew McIntyre, Big E, Kevin Owens, John Cena, and Brock Lesnar. For even though Kenny Omega held multiple world championships last year, it still doesn't measure up to Reign's title Reign. If Omega was able to deliver a million viewers to Dynamite, then it was a good night. However when we compare that to Roman's show WWE Smackdown it is nothing. For that was around 2.25 to 2.0 million a night. Also Roman brought more in attendance for WWE than Omega did for AEW, and most likely he sold more merchandise than Omega. With PPV buyrates, WWE has way of a bigger audience on the Peacock than what AEW draws on their PPV, so again Roman's numbers are incomparable to Omega's numbers.
Therefore the numbers Reigns brought to professional wrestling passed what Omega brought, so 2021 was the year that Roman moved the needle the most in professional wrestling, and 2021 will be looked at as the year of Roman. I think PWI will see they made a mistake in choosing Kenny Omega as wrestler of the year.
