AEW Dynamite emanated live from the Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. The rich history of wrestling in Georgia would continue as AEW set up a fantastic card for the fans. In the main event, Cody Rhodes was set to face Andrade as their rivalry continues. Also on the card, Darby Allin would team with Sting to take on the Gunn Club. Here's how the action went down.
Bryan Danielson vs. Alan "5" Angels
The AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page joined the commentary desk as Daniel Bryan continued his mission of dismantling the Dark Order. This week Danielson chose Alan Angels to be his next victim. Danielson largely dominated much of the matchup. Angels fought valiantly to battle back, but Danielson quickly snuffed out the rally. As a result, the number one contender would lock in a kneebar for the submission victory.
After the match, Danielson got on the mic and stated that he will continue to take out Dark Order members until he gets to Hangman Page. The American Dragon then attempted to get Page to strike him. Tony Khan stated that neither man could touch one another, or they would be suspended. John Silver intervened and told Page that would touch Bryan instead. Silver ran to the ring only for Bryan to take off and head for higher ground.
CM Punk vs. Lee Moriarty
Prior to the match, MJF entered the arena and joined the commentary desk. In the ring, Moriarty gave Punk all that he could manage. The two men battled back and forth as MJF was criticizing Punk for taking so long. Eventually, Punk managed to counter and nail Moriarty with a GTS for the pinfall victory.
After the match, MJF once again engaged Punk in verbal warfare. The brash young superstar ridiculed Punk for not being able to defeat his opposition easily thus far in his AEW career. MJF then went on to talk about how great he is going to do next week in front of his hometown long island fans. Punk attempted to get to MJF but was stopped by Pinnacle members.
Darby Allin & Sting vs. The Gunn Club
Darby Allin and Sting have had their issues with the Gunn Club over the past few weeks. They looked to put an end to this problems as they battled it out in tag team action. Sting grabbed the advantage early on and was able to dominate the Gunn's. When Darby entered the match, he attempted to hit a coffin drop, but was unable to land it. As a result, the Gunn Club took control as the match cut too commercial.
Eventually, Darby was able to find his opening and make the tag to the Icon Sting. Sting exploded into the matchup and dropped both of his opponents. The legend was able to lock Colten Gunn in the scorpion death lock and looked for the finish. However, Austin Gunn illegally entered the ring and nailed Sting with a big right hand. As a result, Billy Gunn was able to take advantage and landed the Fameasser to score a near fall.
Darby Allin fired back into the match. He nailed both Austin and Billy Gunn with suicide dives. The former TNT Champion then followed up with a big stunner to Colten Gunn. As a result, Sting was able to land the Scorpion Death Drop on Colten for the pinfall victory.
TBS Championship Quarterfinal Match
Ruby Soho vs. Kris Statlander
Ruby Soho battled Kris Statlander as both women looked to secure a spot in the semifinals of the TBS Championship tournament. Both women battled back and forth in a fairly even battle early on in the match. Statlander was able to secure a close near fall after she nailed Soho with a blue thunder bomb. Moment's later she followed up with the Big Bang Theory, but Ruby was able to counter and score a rollup for the pinfall victory.
Atlanta Street Fight
Cody Rhodes vs. Andrade El Idolo
In the main event of the evening, Cody Rhodes battled Andrade El Idolo in an Atlanta Street fight. The action began right away as Andrade attacked Cody while he was making his entrance. During the fray, Arn Anderson fell from the stage. The two men battled throughout the crowd and then back to the ringside area.
Andrade grabbed the momentum early on in this match. He ribbed the weight belt from Cody and beat him with it. Cody battled back and landed a low blow on Andrade. Moment's later, Cody nailed Andrade in the face with a steel chair. El Idolo would battle back and nailed Rhodes with a big chair shot of his own that left Cody busted open. Moment's later, Cody searched under the ring for a weapon to use. He picked up a sledgehammer much to the elation of the crowd, but he decided against it.
Instead, Rhodes elected to go with a golden shovel. Andrade's consultant Jose attempted to attack Cody with a taser, but he ate a shovel for his troubles. As a result of the distraction, Andrade nailed Cody with a big dive. Big in the ring, Andrade sent a steel chair into the face of Rhodes with a running knee strike. Andrade grabbed a table and set it up in the ring. El Idolo looked to dive off the top through the table, but Cody managed to stop him. Brandy Rhodes arrived and set the table on fire. Cody landed an inverted suplex from the top and through the flames. Despite being on fire, Cody managed to cover Andrade for the pinfall victory.
Final Thoughts
Wednesday night produced another great night of AEW action. The rivalries are all heating up as the company approaches the Winter is Coming special in a few weeks. Cody Rhodes has had his issues with the fans as of late and has attempted everything to get them back on his side. It will be interesting to see how the fans receive the American Nightmare next week after he put his body on the line in the main event. As always, keep it right here for everything pro wrestling and AEW.
