The Carolina Panthers want Deshaun Watson so bad that they're willing to trade Christian McCaffrey in the process. A report from CBS Sports Jason La Canfora, "League sources said the Panthers are willing to part with three high picks and All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey in a package for Watson."

While McCaffrey is potentially on the table, the Texans reportedly are interested in the Panthers young defensive players.

The issue at hand is Watson wants out of Houston and only wants to be in Miami. If the Texans trade Watson, he will need to waive his no trade clause in the process.

Panthers owner David Tepper remains hellbent on landing Watson. If Carolina trades McCaffrey and multiple premium draft picks it will impact their cap dramatically.

Trading Christian McCaffrey for Deshaun Watson comes at a steep price

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football TalkMike Florio of Pro Football Talk, "trading McCaffrey would trigger a cap charge of $18.5 million in 2022. Second, Watson would arrive with a fully-guaranteed base salary of $35 million in 2022. Third, current quarterback Sam Darnold has a fully-guaranteed base salary of $18.858 million for 2022.

That's more than $72 million in 2022 cap dollars. That's more than enough to make McCaffrey not a realistic factor, at all."

McCaffrey is one of the best running backs in the game but has struggled to remain healthy. The 25-year-old running back has only played in six games the last two seasons. He is currently missing time with a hamstring injury. The Panthers have been reeling without their star tailback dropping their last four games.

Watson comes with his own set of baggage. He is still dealing with the fallout from the alleged sexual assault and misconduct cases. It's unknown if he will play a down this season for any team. There is substantial risk involved for the Panthers if they acquire the star quarterback.

Conclusion

The deal on the surface would be a heist for the Texans. They would get premium draft picks back for their franchise quarterback. Houston would land one of the best running backs in the game in McCaffrey. The Texans would need to hope McCaffrey will finally shed that injury bug that has plagued him the last two years.

The NFL trade deadline is this Tuesday and the clock is ticking for both sides to make a deal. Watson is adamant about playing for the Dolphins but Texans general manager Nick Caserio will look to get the best deal possible. If Carolina and Houston agree to a deal, it would be a mega blockbuster trade. Something typically not seen in the NFL. While the Panthers land a franchise quarterback, the loss of picks, McCaffrey and those caps hits come at a massive, massive price.
