An updated sequel to the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series has been picked up by Netflix for release on the streaming service…

The upcoming "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" sequel that is expected to tie directly to the original film has found a new home on Netflix.

The streaming service secured a deal to bring the highly anticipated horror film to the network. David Blue Garcia directed the film, which shot last year in Bulgaria with "Evil Dead" director Fede Alvarez on board as a producer as well as original "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" writer Kim Henkel serving as a producer on the film.

The original 1974 film from director Tobe Hooper has been hailed as one of the greatest and most influential horror movies of all time. "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" takes place in a rule part of Texas where a bus load of vacationing young people run into a family full of cannibals and killers including the infamous Leatherface, who is horribly disfigured and wears a mask of human flesh to cover his own face.

Listen to our special episode of Rewind of the Living Dead breaking down the good, the bad and the ugly about "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise:

The upcoming sequel is expected to serve as a direct sequel to that film and ignore the numerous films and remakes that have followed for many years. In this updated "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" sequel, Letherface has not been seen for years since atrocities carried out back in the 1970s where only one survivor managed to escape the Sawyer family.

"The film seeks to pick up where the Hooper and Kim Henkel film initially left off, bringing the most notorious horror franchise back to life in the same bold and provocative manner that it was first introduced to the world."

The cast for the new "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" film includes Elsie Fisher — best known for her past role in "Eighth Grade" and "Castle Rock" — as well as Alice Krige ("Deadwood"), Sarah Yarkin ("Happy Death Day 2U") and Olwen Fouere ("Mandy") who will be portraying Sally Hardesty — the only survivor to escape Leatherface and the Sawyer family in the original film.

As of now, there's no release date for the upcoming "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" sequel but stay tuned for more details as they become available.
