The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays played in Game 3 of their 4-game series on Wednesday night. In the first two games, the Red Sox fell short against the Rays but were able to earn the win, 3-2, in Game 3. In the AL East, the Rays currently sit at No. 1 while the Red Sox are at No. 3.

On the Mound

The starting pitcher for the Rays on Wednesday night was Drew Rasmussen. During the six innings, he allowed just three hits and one run. Along with that, he also had five strikeouts. After the 15 batters Rasmussen faced, he threw 11 first-pitch strikes. By the end of his six innings on the mound, he threw 12 called strikes and 15 swinging strikes.

Starting on the mound for the Red Sox during this game was Chris Sale. Sale also pitched six innings, allowing six hits and two runs. The total number of strikeouts Sale had before leaving the game was three. After facing 25 batters, Sale had thrown 16 first-pitch strikes. Along with that, he threw 14 called strikes and 14 swinging strikes.

In the first inning, both teams came up short as the score remained nodded at zero. In the second inning, the Red Sox changed that. During Christian Vazquez's at-bat in the second inning, he singled to center allowing Alex Verdugo to score due to an error on the play. The Rays were unable to score in the second inning. Despite being unable to score in the second inning, the Rays turned things around in the third inning. Wander Franco homered to right field allowing himself and Nelson Cruz to score. The Red Sox scored 0 runs in the third inning.

In the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, both teams were scoreless. Vazquez showed off his skills again in the seventh inning after hitting a home run to left to pick up the 2nd run of the game for the Red Sox. The Rays were unable to score in the seventh inning. In the ninth and final inning of the game, the Red Sox scored one more run to gain the lead and win. Jarren Duran singled to right field allowing Rafael Devers to score. The Rays were unable to score in the ninth inning, falling to the Red Sox.
