DraftKings is kicking off Week 1 of the college football season with a massive Thursday slate, featuring eight games. This $15 slate has a prize pool of $100,000, with $25,000 going to the winner. And, as always, you can expect the winning lineup to have at least one three-man stack. Let's take a look at the best stacking options on the slate:
Eastern Washington: QB Eric Barriere, ($5,200), WR Talolo Limu-Jones ($5,000), WR Andrew Boston ($4,300)
As we discussed in the value plays article, there has been the mispricing to end all mispricings with Eastern Washington this week against UNLV. Barriere is arguably the top QB play on the slate, and he will see ownership north of 75 percent this week. His receivers are similarly underpriced for the matchup, so this stack is the chalk of the slate, but it is really hard to get away from this trio.
Freddie Roberson ($4,500) is another receiver option here, and maybe going with Boston and Roberson, while fading Limu-Jones is a way to be a little different and less chalky. The optimal play is to bring this stack back with UNLV running back Charles Williams, who is also a terrific value at $5,900. Williams will be tasked with trying to match the offensive output of the EW passing attack, so this four-man correlation play is really enticing at the overall price.
Ohio State: QB C.J. Stroud ($8,000), WR Garrett Wilson ($7,500) WR Chris Olave ($6.700)
Unlike our friends at Eastern Washington, this QB-WR trio is appropriately priced, and because of that, they shouldn't be overwhelmingly owned. Stroud takes over for Justin Fields and he should take advantage of his opportunity, especially with Wilson and Olave returning at wide receiver.
You could go the simple stack route here and just play one of the receivers with Stroud, but the three-man here likely gives you all the production out of the Buckeyes' passing game. This is another solid bring-back situation with Minnesota running back Mohammed Ibrahim, who is going to get the rock all night and is arguably the top running back on the slate, next to Charles Williams.
Rutgers: QB Noah Verdal ($5,900), WR Bo Melton ($6,300), Temple: WR Jaden Blue ($4,300)
This is the contrarian stack-correlation play of the slate. This game is going to get overlooked, but even bad teams can score points, especially if they're playing each other. Verdal has appeal as a quarterback who can use his legs and Melton is clearly the top wideout option. Blue is a terrific value who is going to be targeted all night.
The salaries are reasonable and the ownership should be largely non-existent, so there's an appeal here if looking to load up on higher-priced (or Eastern Washington) chalk.
