Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here tonight – Saturday, August 7th., 2021, to breakdown the UFC 265: 'Derrick Lewis vs. Ciryl Gane' event, which was broadcast from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas - with a full capacity live crowd. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event in the player above, or on our Bloody Elbow Presents YouTube Channel and BE Presents Podcast Network. (SPOILERS...)

The UFC showcased the battle for the Interim Heavyweight Championship in the Main Event of tonight's PPV! It was going to be an all out barnburner for bragging rights between fight veteran Derrick Lewis and up-and-comer Ciryl Gane in the main event and a Bantamweight brawl between José Aldo Jr and Pedro 'The Young Punisher' Munhoz in the co-main event.

Returning to the octagon for that main event, we had fight veteran Derrick Lewis, entering the bout with a remarkable 25-7 record. The former Bellator and Legacy FC Champion, was currently ranked #2 in the UFC HeavyWeight rankings. Lewis was banging it out in this Interim Title tilt against Ciryl Gane. Gane, the former TKO HeavyWeight Champ was currently at #3 in the UFC HeavyWeight rankings and was entering the bout with his own impressive, undefeated 9-0 record.

Outcome: ... And NOW, the NEW INTERIM HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP - Ciryl Gane! It happened in the third round, Gane charged in and beat Lewis along the cage, dropped him to the canvas and unleashed an intense flurry of ground and pound until the referee was forced to stop the bout at 4:11 into the round.

In the co-main event, we had a BantamWeight scrap between former three-time UFC FeatherWeight champion, Jose 'Junior' Aldo, the greatest FeatherWeight in mixed martial arts history; and his opponent, #9 ranked, Pedro Munhoz. Munhoz was coming at this off a win against Jimmie Rivera, with a current 19-5 record, Meanwhile, Aldo was coming off a victory against Marlon Vera, with an impressive 29-7 record of his own.

Outcome: Aldo consistently landed efficient jabs and strikes, landing 60% of his significant strikes and evaded Munhoz spinning attacks, in a furious final ten seconds, Aldo pummeled Munhoz, which likely solidified his unanimous decision win on the judges scorecards, while simultaneously setting his own personal striking record of his storied career.

Also on the card, we had a WelterWeight bout taking place between Vicente Luque and Michael Chiesa, a Women's StrawWeight bout between Tecia 'The Tiny Tornado' Torres and Angela 'Overkill' Hill, which was preceded by our main card opening battle between Bantamweights Song Yadong and Casey Kenney, as well as an eight-bout preliminary card.

Notable Outcomes: Luque more than likely earned himself a title shot, or at the very least, a number one contender eliminator match later this year. The striker submitted the grappler... Luque locking in a D'Arce Choke, forcing Chiesa to tap out in the first round. In the main card opener Song Yadong took a Split Decision victory home to China, leaving Kenney to head back home to Arizona with a loss.

Our featured prelim bout was between LightWeights Rafael Fiziev and Bobby Green and was expected to not disappoint as part of our extensive eight-bout undercard, not only did it not disappoint it earned a Fight of the Night Bonus. What a wild night full of fights we have to share with you!
