Son Heung-min's brilliant second-half strike earned Nuno Espirito Santo victory in his first Premier League match as Tottenham Hotspur head coach, as they beat champions Manchester City 1-0 at home.

The victory also ended Pep Guardiola's perfect opening-weekend record, having won his previous five season openers at Man City.

The champions dominated possession in the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough, as Fernandinho and Riyad Mahrez missed their best opportunities.

Spurs carried their threat on the break and took the lead 10 minutes after the restart through Son, who curled superbly into the bottom-left corner after Steven Bergwijn had created the opening.

Bergwijn also had a great chance to double the lead moments later but put his effort wide.

Man City pushed for an equaliser to no avail, with Ferran Torres and summer signing Jack Grealish, making his full debut, each denied by Hugo Lloris.
