Cirkunov will be taking on Poland's Krzysztof Jotko in October.

The recent struggles of UFC veteran Misha Cirkunov have prompted a weight class change.

On Tuesday the promotion revealed that the Canadian by way of Latvia is moving down from light heavyweight to middleweight for an October 2nd showdown with Poland's Krzysztof Jotko. It'll be Cirkunov's first fight at the weight class in his entire MMA career.

Cirkunov (15-6) has lost four of his last six, including a 71-second TKO against Ryan Spann in March. His last seven fights have all ended in the opening round, but it's been a bumpy ride since his impressive 4-0 start inside the Octagon. Cirkunov's last win was a submission of Jimmy Crute via Peruvian necktie.

Jotko (22-5) has been with the UFC since 2013. His three-fight winning streak against Alen Amedovski, Marc-Andre Barriault, and Eryk Anders was snapped this past May by rising contender Sean Strickland. Most of Jotko's fights go the distance, whereas Cirkunov hasn't gone to the scorecards since 2011.

The UFC's October 2nd card is expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between former title challenger Thiago Santos and exciting knockout artist Johnny Walker.
