Season curtain raiser always has some goals in it but this one didn't have a lot. Credit steely defenses? Maybe. Also a contributing factor was the absence of experienced attackers in the Man City lineup. Schmeichel picking up were he left off in his last match there at Wembley with a great perfomance between the sticks for the Foxes. The player everyone wanted to see Jack Grealish came on for Pep's side in the second half but the 100 million pound man didn't have the impact he would have liked.
American keeper Steffen made a huge save pushing a goal bound shot with his leg onto the post showing the value of keeping yourself big on such plays. Leicester were definitely favorites to score there.
The only goal came in comical fashion. Nathan Ake failing to control a pass in a schoolboy type mistake and then had to foul former Man City striker Iheanacho to prevent the goal scoring opportunity. The ref played a good advantage on Patson Daka(Zambian signed from Salzburg) to see whether he could score or not. Steffen was close but could not save the spot kick by Iheanacho(on the excellent game he was having he probably deserved to). Leicester get the shield for the second time in their history. After two narrow top 4 misses in the last two seasons here is hoping they can at last shed the chokers tag.
