Austin "Duck Jitsu" Daffron added another no-gi BJJ championship title to his resume by winning the men's 145 lb division of Sub Spectrum's Summer Showdown tournament. This was a particularly impressive accomplishment for Daffron as he moved up 20 pounds to the 145 lb division as he normally competes in the 125 pound weight class. Adding further to the accomplishment is the fact that this was Daffron's first jiu-jitsu tournament since he had knee surgery to repair his meniscus in May.
Daffron showcased excellent form by winning all five of his matches by submission. By winning the 145 lb division, Daffron took home the $1,000 championship cash prize.
Daffron's first match of the tournament proved to be his toughest and was particularly exciting as he appeared to be on the brink of defeat with just seconds left in his match against Caelen Hester. Hester appeared to be in total control with a 5-3 lead and looked well on his way to victory as he had taken Daffron's back and sunk in both hooks. Undeterred, Daffron was able to reverse the position with about 5 seconds left in the match to even the score at 5-5. Daffron was able to produce a lighting fast and exciting finish within 20 seconds of the overtime period as he secured the armbar submission. You can check out the entire match in the video below.
Daffron's jiu-jitsu resume now includes:
• Sub Spectrum Summer Showdown – 2021 Champion – 145 lbs
• BJJ Woodstock – 2020 Champion – Flyweight Division 125 lbs
• Ultimate Mat Warriors – 2019 Champion – Open Division 125 lbs
