Good Morning! On this day in 1914, actress Betty Lou Gerson, best known as the original voice of Cruella de Vil in Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, was born in Chattanooga. Gerson was often recognized for her distinctive, dramatic voice. When storms hit Clarksville, one woman brought the barn inside, sheltering her horse in the kitchen until the skies cleared. See photos of the comical moment in the story below. Today’s sponsor, Share-Ify, is using AI to help food companies improve safety, streamline operations, and respond faster to potential risks across the supply chain.

TN Names June Nuclear Family Month
Gov. Bill Lee signed a resolution designating June as Nuclear Family Month, highlighting households with married parents and children as a foundational social structure. The measure, first introduced in 2025, is symbolic and does not establish an official holiday. Supporters say it reinforces long-held state values and draws attention to research on child well-being in two-parent homes. Critics, including LGBTQ+ advocates, argue that the celebration excludes other family structures. |
Summer EBT Returns
Tennessee lawmakers approved $7 million to bring back the Summer EBT food program in 2027, restoring federal grocery support for hundreds of thousands of children.
The program, which provides about $120 per child, won’t be available this summer, marking a second year the state has opted out.
In the meantime, officials plan a smaller, state-run effort reaching fewer families, while local groups step in to fill gaps.
Supporters call the new funding a step forward in tackling child hunger statewide.

Million Bees Swarm after Truck Crash
A truck hauling roughly 1 million bees crashed near an I-40 East ramp in Knoxville, triggering a brief but chaotic shutdown of the busy downtown connector. The crash, reported late Friday morning, sent bees swarming across the area and forced drivers to stay inside their vehicles unless properly protected. Crews worked quickly to unload the truck, contain the bees, and reopen the ramp within hours, though traffic backed up toward I-640 during cleanup. By early afternoon, all bees were safely removed, and the roadway was back open, with no major injuries reported. |
