| Fuller and Harris Advance to Runoff Republican Clay Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris will advance to an April 7 runoff to fill the 14th Congressional District seat vacated by Marjorie Taylor Greene. Neither candidate reached the majority needed to win outright in Tuesday's crowded special election for the solidly Republican district. You can track the unofficial results here. Fuller, the Lookout Mountain district attorney endorsed by President Trump, topped fellow GOP candidates by a wide margin. Fuller enters the runoff as the favorite in a district Trump carried by 37 points in 2024, while Harris, a retired Army brigadier general and cattle farmer, points to strong fundraising for optimism. | Kemp Mulls Gas Tax Cut Gov. Brian Kemp on Tuesday said he is taking a wait-and-see approach on suspending Georgia's gas tax as oil prices swing wildly in the wake of the Iran conflict. Kemp, who has suspended the gas tax three times previously, said he wanted to avoid overreacting to what could be a short-term spike. Oil spiked to $115 per barrel earlier this week before retreating to around $90, and Georgia gas prices are up about 40 cents from a year ago. Diesel prices are also climbing across the state, adding pressure on farmers and truckers. | Falcons Sign Tua The Atlanta Falcons agreed to sign quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year, $1.3 million contract just hours after the Miami Dolphins released him. Tagovailoa will compete for the starting job with Michael Penix Jr., giving new Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski a veteran option under center. Penix is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in November. The move ends Tagovailoa's rocky final stretch in Miami, where the former No. 5 overall pick was benched for the last three games. In 2023, Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards with 4,624 yards and threw a career-high 29 touchdowns. Atlanta will take almost no financial risk with the signing because Miami still owes Tagovailoa $54 million in guaranteed money. | |
