The Florida Legislature passed a bill on Thursday that would require voters to prove their citizenship at the ballot box.

"Although Florida has already enacted much of what the federal legislation contemplates, this will further fortify our state as the leader in election integrity," Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a social media post.

The bill is modeled after the federal SAVE America Act strongly championed by President Trump that mandates voters verify their citizenship when registering.

DeSantis is a known supporter of the bill and is expected to sign it. However, the bill won't take effect until Jan. 1, 2027, after the key mid-term elections.

Article Icon 1Recounts Occur in Palm Beach Elections

Palm Beach County started recounts Friday morning after three races were too close to call after Tuesday's elections.

After a machine recount, a manual recount was called for the South Palm Beach Town Council election, the Boca Raton mayoral election and the Lake Worth Beach charter referendum.

Under Florida law, a machine recount is triggered when the margin is 0.5% or less. If the margin falls below 0.25%, the race then moves to a manual recount.

Andy Thomson won the Boca Raton mayoral race by five votes, while the Lake Worth Beach charter referendum failed to pass by two votes after a manual recount.

Results of the Palm Beach Town Council election manual recount will be available here when completed.

Article Icon 1Orlando Ranked Best for Green Space

Orlando has more green space per resident than any other major city, according to analysis from the travel platform BookRetreats, who ranked the city first in the world.

"The psychology of travel is changing," says BookRetreats.com co-founder Sean Kelly. "It's less about asking 'Where should I go?' and more about 'How do I want to feel when I get there?'"

Orlando, known as The City Beautiful, offers roughly 2,777 square feet of greenery per person. That translates to more than 148 parks, gardens, and recreation areas.

Other cities around the world recognized in the top five were Chicago, Illinois, Manchester, England, Helsinki, Finland, and Oslo, Norway.
