El Salvador marked its first-ever appearance at the 2026 Winter Paralympics with two unlikely trailblazers. David Chávez, 27, and Jonathan Arias, 28, competed in para cross-country skiing in Milan-Cortina, a remarkable achievement for athletes from a tropical country where most people have never seen snow.

Both men were paralyzed in separate gang shootings at age 14, injuries that once left them unsure what their futures might hold. They eventually found a new path through adaptive sports, first meeting through wheelchair basketball before discovering elite competition.

With help from American coaches and supporters, the pair turned to cross-country skiing. They trained in creative ways back home, including pushing their ski equipment through thick beach sand to build strength before competing overseas.

They hope their journey shows other Salvadorans with disabilities that even after devastating setbacks, new possibilities are still within reach. Watch them train here.

A Washington skier survived more than four hours buried under an avalanche at Stevens Pass last month after his wife tracked him using Apple's Find My iPhone and directed ski patrol to his precise location.

Michael Harris was making his final run of the day through Big Chief Bowl when a slab gave way, sweeping him into a snow hole where debris pinned him beneath what he described as snow that felt like cement.

His wife, Penny, had a gut feeling something was wrong, checked the app, and noticed his location hadn't moved in hours, so she contacted Stevens Pass ski patrol and handed them a live GPS snapshot from her phone before driving to the mountain herself.

Avalanche experts say survival odds drop sharply after just 15 minutes of burial, and nearly no one survives past two hours, making Harris's four-hour ordeal a statistical near-impossibility.

Rescuers dug him out, conscious but severely hypothermic, with a body temperature in the 70s; hospital staff nicknamed him Miracle Avalanche Man, and Harris put it simply: "She's my lifesaver."

A tiny parakeet named Mei Mei turned up in Central Park last year and spent 10 weeks living wild alongside a flock of sparrows before a devoted birder saved her life, and now she's found a forever home.

The urgency was real: budgies native to Australia carry no body fat and can't survive temperatures below 50 degrees, giving rescuers a razor-thin window before a New York winter closed it for good.

Birder JP Borum, who logged roughly 300 hours stalking the bird over 10 weeks, finally outsmarted her by pretending to be an ordinary pedestrian and dropping a net around her in what she called a move like a ring toss.

After months of quarantining in Borum's Manhattan apartment, Mei Mei officially moved into Foster Parrots sanctuary in Rhode Island this month, joining 130 feathered friends, including doves, finches, and fellow budgies.

She might even find love, since budgies mate for life.

When most people think about investing in gold or silver, they picture mining companies digging metals out of the ground.

But historically, some of the most successful companies in the entire sector didn't mine anything at all.Instead – they used a royalty model.

That means they finance or partner with mines and then collect a percentage of the metals produced, often for decades. No drilling, no heavy operating costs, and exposure to rising metal prices.

Now, a new royalty company that just had its IPO is beginning to attract attention.

Bullseye Alerts recently put together a research report explaining why they believe this small, newly public company could be positioned to grow as it builds out its royalty portfolio.

If their thesis is right, early investors typically benefit the most.

Royalty companies have produced some of the biggest long-term winners in the precious metals industry.

The model can generate recurring cash flow while avoiding many of the operational risks traditional mining companies face.

With precious metals back in focus and a new royalty player just entering the public markets, Bullseye Alerts believes it is a time-sensitive opportunity all investors should look into right away.

See the full report on this new IPO, the royalty model behind it, and why some analysts think this company could be one to watch.
