Three Ohio Airmen Die in Iraq Crash

Three members of the Ohio Air National Guard's 121st Air Refueling Wing were among six people killed when a KC-135 Stratotanker crashed over Iraq last Thursday.

The Ohio airmen were identified as Capt. Seth Koval of Stoutsville, Capt. Curtis Angst of Columbus, and Tech. Sgt. Tyler Simmons of Columbus. Their aircraft collided with another refueling plane, which was damaged but landed safely.

Gov. Mike DeWine ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on the day of their funerals.

Vice President JD Vance, a Middletown native who previously deployed to Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps, asked for prayers and wrote that a "grateful nation mourns their loss."

Friday Windstorms Knock Out Power to Thousands

More than 500,000 Ohioans lost power during Friday's windstorms, and more than 80,000 were still without electricity as of Sunday afternoon.

Winds topped 70 mph across much of the state, with gusts reaching 85 mph at Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport.

A hangar roof was damaged at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, but airport officials said operations weren't affected.

AEP Ohio said high winds made it unsafe for crews to use bucket trucks during restoration efforts, and said the storm caused the worst damage to electrical infrastructure since the 2012 derecho.

Four Ohio Teams Earn March Madness Bids

Ohio State and Miami received at-large bids to the NCAA men's basketball tournament, while Akron earned a No. 12 seed as the Mid-American Conference champion, and Wright State received a No. 14 seed as the Horizon League champion.

Ohio State is the No. 8 seed in the East Region and will open Thursday against No. 9 seed TCU in Greenville, South Carolina. If the Buckeyes advance, they could face No. 1 overall seed Duke in the Round of 32.

Miami, which went 31-0 in the regular season before losing its first game in the MAC tournament, will face SMU in the First Four on Wednesday in Dayton. A win would send the RedHawks to a Friday matchup against No. 6 seed Tennessee in Philadelphia.

Akron will face No. 5 seed Texas Tech on Friday in Tampa, Florida, while Wright State will take on No. 3 seed Virginia on Friday in Philadelphia. You can view the complete bracket here.
