Florida municipalities held off-year elections on Tuesday for municipal positions, including mayor, council, and commission posts. A few highlights:

Boca Raton: A three-way mayoral race ended in a mandatory recount, with the top two candidates, Andy Thomson and Mike Liebelson, six votes apart. Voters elected three new council members, Michelle Grau, Jon Pearlman, and Stacy Sipple, and weighed in on a pair of ballot questions on the future of two local development projects, rejecting both.

Apopka: Orange County Commissioner Christine Moore and City Commissioner Nick Nesta are headed to a runoff election for mayor on April 14 since no candidate in the three-way race won a majority of the vote.

St. Pete Beach: Mayor Adrian Petrila failed in his nonpartisan reelection bid, losing to challenger Scott Tate after a bitter campaign that featured sharp barbs on both sides.

West Palm Beach: Commissioners Cathleen Ward and Christy Fox, who faced one opponent each, won reelection. Both winners earned four-year terms on the five-seat panel.

Maitland: Keith Givens won a city council seat, becoming the first black council member elected in the modern era.

Pembroke Pines: Vice Mayor Mike Hernรกndez and Commissioner Thomas Good successfully fended off challenges and won four more years representing Districts 4 and 1.

The Florida House approved a bill (SB 302) to promote nature-based coastal protection strategies while strengthening safeguards for aquatic preserves. It includes provisions designed to block a developer-proposed cruise port in Manatee County.

The House approved the measure 109-0 after the Senate added an amendment to protect the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve in Manatee County, introduced by Sen. Jim Boyd. The bill now moves to the governor for his signature.

A proposal by SSA Marine to build a new cruise terminal near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge faced intense local opposition due to environmental concerns. Nearly 20,000 residents signed a petition to protect the preserve.

The amendment prohibits the dredging or filling of submerged lands except under limited circumstances, such as public health needs or environmental restoration efforts. It also directs the Department of Environmental Protection to develop clearer statewide standards for nature-based coastal protection methods by 2027.

Article Icon 1Heat's Adebayo Scores 83

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo scored 83 points against the Wizards on Tuesday night, the highest single-game total since Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point performance in 1962. The outburst pushed him past Kobe Bryant's 81-point game in 2006, a mark many considered untouchable.

Usually considered a defensive specialist, Adebayo surpassed his season scoring average in the first quarter, scoring 31. By halftime, he'd passed his career-high of 41 points and was knocking on the door of LeBron James' Miami Heat franchise record of 61, set in 2014.

With history at stake, the second half became both messy and entertaining. The Heat began forcing the ball to Bam, causing the Wizards to triple-team him to try to cut off his chance at the record. With about a minute left, Adebayo drew one last foul and sank free throws to get the record.

The event drew mixed reactions across the league. Bam beamed in the post-game press conference. "Wilt, me, then Kobe," he said. "It sounds crazy."
