| Police: Man Shot After Firing at Police Chopper A man accused of shooting multiple rounds at a Phoenix police helicopter on Sunday morning was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after officers on the ground returned fire. It was the second time in a week that a Phoenix police helicopter was targeted by gunfire. On March 16, two men were charged with multiple felonies for allegedly firing a rifle at a helicopter. Sunday's shooting occurred near 40th Street and Thomas Road, where police and an air unit responded to reports of gunfire and found the suspect in the backyard of an apartment complex. As the helicopter arrived, the man began shooting a handgun at the aircraft, prompting return fire, authorities said.
