She is known for her roles in the Broadway musical Peter Pan, numerous TV series, and the 1978 Disney film The Cat from Outer Space. Speaking of cats, that's what staff at a vet clinic in Waco were expecting when a customer brought a bull calf instead. The doctor wasn't fazed, though, saying it was "just like a big dog." Dozens of fire departments across the state are providing assistance to local agencies and the Texas A&M Forest Service. As of yesterday evening, the 8 Ball Fire in Armstrong and Donley counties had consumed 13,000 acres and was 55% contained, while the Lavender Fire in Oldham and Potter counties had burned 18,423 acres and was 20% contained. Evacuations related to the 8 Ball Fire were lifted, while those issued in response to the Lavender Fire remain in effect. "One of the biggest challenges firefighters on the ground are facing is rough terrain, dry vegetation, and wind," said Laura Stevens with the Forest Service. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has declared an agricultural emergency and activated the State of Texas Agriculture Relief Fund. Yesterday, FEMA approved a request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant, providing reimbursement of 75% of the costs associated with fighting the 8 Ball Fire. | Texas High Schools Targeted with Bomb Hoax Multiple Texas high schools were targeted by fake bomb threats on Wednesday, prompting lockdowns, evacuations, and class cancellations. Classes were canceled at Coppell High School, Anna High School, and Cibolo's Steele High School. Boerne High School, Comfort High School, and Georgetown High School were evacuated and cleared of threats before classes resumed, while Duncanville High School was swept before students arrived. It appears each affected school received the same voicemail message yesterday morning. A statement from the Schertz Police Department confirmed "there is no current intelligence to believe these threats are credible," while Comfort ISD officials said they might be part of a "national swatting hoax." Still, criminologist Alex del Carmen said authorities can't take any chances. "They have to take every single threat seriously, and they have to respond with the same level of assertiveness that they do for those that are real." | Deepwater Port Gets $2.1B in Japanese Backing The U.S. Department of Transportation approved a license for Texas GulfLink to operate an offshore crude oil export terminal located 30 miles from Brazoria County earlier this month. It's the first such license authorized under a 2025 executive order titled Unleashing American Energy and only the eighth issued since the 1970s. The deepwater port, being developed by Sentinel Midstream, is expected to create 720 jobs and have the capacity to load tanker ships with up to 1 million barrels of oil per day, reducing congestion in nearby coastal ports. On Tuesday, President Trump indicated Japan would invest $2.1 billion in the project, one of three in the U.S. totaling $36 billion. "The scale of these projects are so large, and could not be done without one very special word, TARIFFS," Trump said. "We are signaling to the global market that America is open for business. By approving projects like Texas GulfLink, we ensure that American oil producers aren't halted by domestic bottlenecks," said Maritime Administrator Capt. Stephen M. Carmel. | | | Flying together with our sponsor A New Era for Gold and Silver For years now, many people in or near retirement have viewed precious metals through a single lens: wealth preservation. It was the "safe haven" you turned to when the rest of the market looked shaky. But that era may have ended… with a new one emerging. We have now entered an unprecedented period of momentum. Gold charged past $5,000/oz. Silver skyrocketed past $100/oz. For the first time in decades, the conversation for retirement savers seems to be shifting. It's no longer just about "holding the line"—it's about the potential growth these physical assets could bring to a diversified portfolio. Why This Could Just Be The Beginning While $5,000 gold and $100 silver are historic milestones, many seasoned market analysts suggest this move may just be getting started, even with the recent pullbacks. Analysts report that gold has more room to run as geopolitics and central banks buying fuel gains. With the upcoming U.S. mid-term elections, political uncertainty may increase further. At the same time, persistent concerns about over-valued equity markets could reinforce portfolio diversification flows into gold.
