Good Morning! On this day in 1859, a group of prospectors established the Boulder City Town Company after discovering gold in the mountains west of present-day Boulder. The settlement, named for the high number of boulders found in local streams, would later become the city of Boulder.

Democrats Introduce More Gun Bills

Democrats in the state legislature have introduced two bills that would crack down on 3D-printed firearms and impose stricter rules on gun dealers.

House Bill 1144 would ban the manufacture of most 3D-printed firearms, including "ghost guns," which are unserialized and largely untraceable, and can allow users to bypass background checks. The bill includes a carve-out for federally licensed gun manufacturers.

Another new measure, House Bill 1126, would expand oversight of firearms dealers through additional requirements for state permits, security systems, recordkeeping, and reporting.

The legislature is also considering Senate Bill 4, which would broaden Colorado's red flag gun law. That measure is awaiting its first House committee hearing.

Medicaid Cuts Paused

After hours of emotional testimony, the Joint Budget Committee (JBC) voted to put a hold on proposed Medicaid cuts impacting children and adults with severe disabilities.

The proposals would have capped family caregivers' billable hours at 56 per week and reduced pay rates by about 10%. The six-member bipartisan committee denied the requests, delaying both until the next budget year.

The requests stem from a $250 million executive-order budget cut that directed state agencies, including Medicaid, to reduce spending. Medicaid officials argue they must overhaul the fast-growing program to make its services sustainable.

Mark Ferrandino, the governor's budget director, supported the proposed cuts, saying they would help avoid even more difficult decisions in the future.

Restaurant Week Menus Unveiled

Denver Restaurant Week, an annual celebration of the city's dining scene, has released its menus for the 22nd edition of the event, which runs March 6-15.

This year, Restaurant Week features deals at more than 270 participating restaurants across and beyond the Denver metro area, with locations extending to Fort Collins and Castle Rock. Each offers multi-course menus at $25, $35, $45, or $55 per person.

The showcased restaurants include everything from steakhouses and wineries to bakeries and noodle houses. Many boast recognitions from the Michelin Guide and the James Beard Foundation.
