Chamber CEO Defends Data Centers

Georgia Chamber of Commerce CEO Chris Clark defended the economic value of data centers as state lawmakers from both parties debate whether to slow their growth.

Some lawmakers cite concerns about strain on local infrastructure and utilities, while others warn that a pause could risk billions in investment and thousands of jobs.

One report found that data center projects have created more than 28,000 construction jobs and more than 5,000 permanent jobs, contributing billions of dollars to the state's economy.

A group of Republican lawmakers proposed eliminating data center tax breaks. A University of Georgia study found only 30 percent of the state's data center boom stemmed from tax incentives, contradicting earlier projections.

Icy Storm in Forecast

A powerful winter storm could hit areas of the state by Saturday, with North Georgia in line for a potentially heavy amount of freezing rain.

The storm could deliver widespread snow and ice from Texas to the Southeast coast, although uncertainty remains about how much snow, ice, or rain areas will get.

Forecast confidence remains limited, as small shifts in temperature or storm track could dramatically change local impacts across the state.

Hyundai Reveals Car-Building Robots

Hyundai's Boston Dynamics subsidiary unveiled its humanoid robot Atlas at this month's CES technology show in Las Vegas.

The electric vehicle maker plans to deploy the robots at its plant near Savannah by 2028. Each robot can lift 110 pounds, operate in extreme temperatures, and replace its own battery.

Hyundai plans to start mass-producing the robots by 2028, initially having the units perform simple tasks like arranging parts before advancing to complex assembly work by 2030.

The company is partnering with Google's DeepMind division to develop artificial intelligence software for the robots.
