DeSantis Proposes AI Bill of Rights

Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled a comprehensive plan to regulate artificial intelligence in Florida, asserting that the state should not cede its authority even if the federal government attempts to block state-level AI laws.

The governor's AI Bill of Rights would limit AI therapy, enhance parental controls, require disclosures, and aim to protect children, seniors, and businesses.

The proposal also includes data center protections, which would prevent utilities from charging Floridians for the use of AI power, restrict subsidies for Big Tech, grant local governments the authority to halt the development of AI centers, and safeguard Florida's water and natural resources.

The AI Bill of Rights would also require companies to notify customers when they are interacting with AI, ensure that personal or work data input into AI is protected and private, and limit insurance companies from using AI to process claims.

Dirty Bomb Scare in Polk County

A crash at a Publix in Davenport resulted in the arrest of Benjamin Donald Johnson, 43, after Haines City Police found firearms and a container with a radioactive warning label in his truck late Friday evening.

Officers described Johnson as uncooperative and refusing to exit his vehicle, which required them to remove him physically. During the process, multiple firearms were visible, and an officer heard Johnson say there was a "dirty bomb" in his truck.

A Florida State Fire Investigator confirmed the container emitted radioactivity. A further investigation by an FBI bomb technician and other officials determined that the device was used for soil testing and contained less radioactivity than a medical X-ray.

A search of Johnson's truck revealed firearms, thermal scopes, knives, a battering ram, night vision goggles, cannabis, and THC-positive gummies. Johnson said he was in the area for work and was living in his vehicle with his dog, which Animal Control safely took into its possession.

Messi and Miami Clinch MLS Cup Title

Inter Miami CF secured a historic 3-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale to clinch the club's fourth trophy and first-ever MLS Cup.

Lionel Messi joined the South Florida club in July 2023. The victory completes a dramatic turnaround for Inter Miami, which was languishing in the MLS basement when the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner arrived as the league's biggest signing.

Considered by many to be the greatest player in soccer history, Messi has won a World Cup and dozens of other trophies, but he had not won an MLS Cup before now. It's the 44th senior title for Messi, who was named the MLS Cup MVP.

Inter Miami's pink-clad fans, most wearing Messi's No. 10, stood, stomped, and cheered as Inter Miami became the 16th franchise in the league's 30-year history to win an MLS title.
