The Justice Department sued the Loudoun County school board in an attempt to overturn the district's policy that allows children who identify as transgender to use whichever bathroom they choose.

"Loudoun County's decision to advance and promote gender ideology tramples on the rights of religious students who cannot embrace ideas that deny biological reality," Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said.

Two students at Stone Bridge High School were suspended earlier this year after a student who identifies as transgender claimed to have been harassed. That incident is being considered by a federal court.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares also investigated and called the suspensions a "retaliatory Title IX investigation."

A state trooper acted quickly to rescue the driver of a burning car.

The incident took place during Friday's snowstorm, when Sgt. S. Page was patrolling I-95 and saw that a Tesla had gone off the road and collided with a tree.

The doors would not open, so the officer smashed a window to free the driver. Page reported that he then "cut the air bag, pulled him out of the car, and dragged him about 10 feet away from the car until some other folks came and helped me out."

The driver, a 34-year-old Maryland man, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
