A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through midnight as a quick-moving storm system delivers a wintry mix that began overnight in western North Carolina and is moving across parts of the northern Piedmont and Coastal Plain today.

Ice, snow, and rain are expected north and east of Asheville, potentially causing travel delays this morning.

Up to 1 inch of snow is possible north of the Triangle, with precipitation expected to shift to rain by midday. A chance of evening showers turning to a wintry mix could complicate Friday evening commutes.

Communities south of Asheboro will mostly experience cold rain.

Mostly cloudy skies are forecast over the weekend, with highs in the 40s to low 50s and spotty showers on Saturday. Cooler air returns early next week, with no further wintry threats in the forecast.

Article Icon 1Stein Touts Economic Growth Despite Setbacks

Gov. Josh Stein announced Wednesday that North Carolina is positioned for strong future economic growth after securing pledges of over 33,000 new jobs and nearly $23 billion in investments during 2025 across sectors like aerospace, biotech, and advanced manufacturing.

Despite the boom, performance-based state incentive payouts reveal uneven follow-through, with some companies, like Cisco and Ernst & Young, meeting or exceeding job targets, while others, like Credit Karma and Atlantic Building Components, have fallen short.

Hurricane Helene's impact also lingers, with six Western North Carolina counties shifting to more economically distressed tiers for 2026. Recovery efforts continue, though 86% of affected businesses reported earnings at or below pre-storm levels in July.

North Carolina also faces a budget impasse until Dec. 15, with House Speaker Destin Hall stating the House will not support a budget that limits teacher and state employee raises to 2%, arguing that higher increases are needed despite projected future deficits.

The Flyover

It's a chilling thought: how easily can a stranger find where you live?

For most people, it takes less than 30 seconds. Data brokers are companies that legally scrape public records, social media, and other sources to build a profile on you. This profile—which includes your home address, phone number, and even your relatives' names —is then sold to anyone.

This makes it dangerously easy for stalkers, harassers, or anyone angry about your opinions to find you.

DeleteMe is a hands-free service that allows privacy experts to remove your personal information from hundreds of data broker sites. They handle all the removals and monitor the sites throughout the year. Removing your data helps you protect yourself from these real-world threats.
