| Moreno Challenges Dual Citizenship U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno introduced legislation that would ban dual citizenship, requiring Americans to hold only U.S. citizenship. Moreno's bill states current policy "may create conflicts of interest and divided loyalties." He proposes giving dual citizens one year to renounce either their U.S. or foreign citizenship. Moreno was born in Colombia but renounced his Colombian citizenship. "One of the greatest honors of my life was when I became an American citizen at 18, the first opportunity I could do so," he said. His bill also would require the Department of Homeland Security to ensure that those who relinquish their U.S. citizenship—whether voluntarily or involuntarily—are "appropriately recorded in federal systems and treated as an alien for purposes of the immigration laws." | College Audit Finds 'Rampant' Violations Eastern Gateway Community College allegedly engaged in "rampant financial mismanagement" before closing, according to a state auditor's report. The school operated campuses in Steubenville and Youngstown. The report cites 44 instances in which the college allegedly violated the law or state rules, and raises questions about the school's use of $17.3 million in federal Pell Grants. In 2022, the U.S. Department of Education said Eastern Gateway illegally charged higher tuition for students with Pell Grants than for those without federal aid. | State Parks Host Holiday Events The state Department of Natural Resources will host holiday celebrations at state park lodges throughout December. Christmas Day meals are scheduled at Burr Oak and Deer Creek, with a Christmas Eve dinner at The Lodge at Geneva. Hueston Woods will host events on both days. Burr Oak will offer family movie nights on multiple dates, and several state parks will host visits from Santa Claus. Other events include Light up the Lodge at Geneva from Dec. 5-7, a post-Christmas Winter Carnival at Maumee Bay, and New Year's Eve parties at Maumee Bay and Shawnee Lodge. | |
