| | Thursday, November 13, 2025 | | | Good Morning! On this day in 2022, a former University of Virginia football player killed his former teammates Devin Chandler ('24), Lavel Davis Jr. ('24), and D'Sean Perry ('23) and wounded two other students. The shooter, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., opened fire as a bus they were riding on arrived on campus after returning from a field trip. He pleaded guilty to murder and is set to be sentenced next week. The American Revolution, the new documentary by Ken Burns, debuts this weekend. The film is based, in part, on a book by University of Virginia professor Alan Taylor, who also appears in the documentary. Virginia played a major role in the fight for freedom 250 years ago. Scroll down to our Et Cetera section for information on another Revolutionary documentary that also features Southwest Virginia. How are you planning to celebrate the country's 250th birthday? | SNAP Set to Restart The Virginia Department of Social Services announced that it will begin paying some SNAP benefits starting today. The agency expects to pay out about two-thirds of the regular level of benefits this month. About 850,000 Virginians rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Last week, the state launched the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) program to fill the gap left by the federal government's suspension of SNAP spending. Gov. Glenn Youngkin paused VENA this week after President Trump ordered states to "immediately undo" their ad hoc food benefit programs. It is not clear whether the SNAP program will be fully funded for December. | Greensville Inmate Killed An inmate at the Greensville Correctional Center was killed early Tuesday, apparently by a cellmate. The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) reported that prison guards responded to a call on Tuesday morning and found one prisoner on top of another. The guards attempted to provide life-saving measures, but the inmate was pronounced dead by a doctor at 4:30 a.m. The victim has not been officially identified. However, a family member told local journalists that he was 42-year-old Prince Brooks, a man with ties to Charlottesville. Officials described the incident as isolated. "Greensville Correctional Center is secure and there is no active threat to corrections team members or the inmate population," VADOC said. | Northern Lights Glow Across Virginia The northern lights made an appearance across large swaths of the Virginia sky this week. Eruptions of energy from the sun, known as coronal mass ejections or solar wind, are reaching Earth and impacting the planet's magnetic field, delivering stunning displays of the northern lights, or aurora borealis, across the U.S. The sun is reportedly at the maximum phase of its 11-year activity cycle, which is boosting the celestial show. The northern lights may remain visible tonight, depending on weather conditions. | |

| Flying together with our sponsor It sounds ridiculous at first, but when a top urologist noticed that astronauts almost never suffer from BPH, he started asking questions. What he uncovered shocked him. Turns out, the space station staff adds a special ingredient to their water. It keeps the urinary system clean, powerful, and completely free of the toxic buildup that clogs men's prostates as they age. Turns out the same inexpensive ingredient can be used by men on Earth, too, and it works 10 times better than most prostate meds on the market.
