Priscilla Timmons, 39, suffered a pulmonary embolism in March that triggered three cardiac arrests and organ failure, leaving her with just a 10% chance of survival. While Priscilla was still unresponsive in the ICU, Scrunchie, one of the hospital’s therapy dogs, nuzzled her hand, prompting her first movement and sparking her recovery. Priscilla spent 21 days in intensive care and has since returned to thank the care team—and the therapy dogs—who supported her fight back to life. Watch a video of Priscilla petting Scrunchie. | Minnesota Mom Saves Kids From Burning Bus A quick-thinking mom in Minnesota is being recognized for her bravery after she helped rescue 22 elementary students from a school bus that caught fire. Kari Thorp spotted smoke and flames coming from the bus outside her home and ran toward it, alerting the driver. Together, they evacuated the children just moments before the bus was engulfed in flames. Her Ring camera later showed the kids safely gathered outside as tires exploded and the fire spread. Parents and school officials have praised both adults for their fast, fearless response. | Dogs Airlifted After Alaska Floods A nonprofit in western Alaska has rescued at least 180 dogs—and one classroom turtle—after flooding from Typhoon Halong left remote villages underwater and cut off. Bethel Friends of Canines, with help from pilots and locals, has been airlifting animals out using whatever’s available, including backpacks and plastic totes. Most of the dogs are being reunited with their families, while unclaimed pets are placed in foster care or posted online for ID. The group is still responding to calls, especially for dogs that are scared and hiding in the debris. “Everyone knows everyone’s dog,” one volunteer said. And they’re not quitting until every last one is found. | | | | The following story is featured exclusively on The Feel Good Flyover Podcast. The NTSB, which criticized a Federal Aviation Administration decision against mandating the inspections, recommended visual checks of the landing gear's retaining bolt and trunnion pin. To date, about 12% of the nearly 2,000 planes targeted for inspection have been checked, despite manufacturer Bombardier's recommendations and previous repairs, the safety board said. In the February crash, a pilot was killed and three others injured when a Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and collided with a business jet parked at the airport. The Learjet was owned by Motley Crue singer Vince Neil, who was not on board. | College Season Tips Off Monday No. 13 Arizona hopes to make another deep run into March as the college basketball season gets started on Monday, with the Wildcats opening against No. 3 Florida in Las Vegas, Nevada. Arizona State will embark on a full rebuild under coach Bobby Hurley with 14 new players, including international transfers. Northern Arizona looks to build on last season's 18-win campaign, relying on three key returners and six experienced transfers to chase a postseason return. Arizona, which reached the Sweet 16 of last season's NCAA Tournament, returns key players Jaden Bradley and Motiejus Krivas. Gone from last year's squad are Carter Bryant and Caleb Love, both of whom turned professional. | Salvation Army Strikes Gold...Again An anonymous person donated to the Salvation Army by dropping a 2.5-gram gold tooth into a Red Kettle in the town of Quartzsite, the second such donation there in four years. "Whoever blessed us with this creative gift, we thank them from the bottom of our hearts," said Lt. Colonel Charles Fowler of The Salvation Army Southwest Division. Valued at about $100, the unusual gift took its place among the coins and bills that typically fill kettles each holiday season, with proceeds supporting local programs for people in need. In 2021, someone dropped a gold tooth worth about $300 into a kettle in Quartzsite, known as the Rock Capital of the World. | | | Flying together with our sponsor Urgent aid for Jamaica—your gift matters You can be part of the urgent response to the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.
