The PLL season concludes today with a solid championship matchup in Philly between the Whipsnakes and defending champion Archers. Last week I went 1-2 in the semis, losing big on the Atlas in their OT loss to the Whips, losing 2.75 units. Let's close out the season with a win!
Archers vs. Whipsnakes (3:00)
Really solid matchup to end the season as the 2 seed Archers face the 4 seed Whipsnakes in this year's championship game today. I hate that the PLL makes their final go up against the NFL, so no one's gonna watch it, but as usual professional lacrosse can't stay out of their own way. The Archers look to go back to back and become the second two time champions in league history, joining their opponent, the Whipsnakes, who won the championship in the first two years of the PLL's existence. After having a bye in the quarterfinals as the 2 seed, the Archers had the most dominant defense performance in PLL history, embarrassing the Chaos with a 10-1 win. Statistically Utah has been in the middle of the pack this season on both sides of the field, scoring an average of 12.9 goals per game, the third most in the league, and allowing an average of 12 per game, the third fewest in the league. The Whipsnakes advanced to the Championship with a 12-11 overtime win last week over the #1 seed Atlas for the Archers on Levi Anderson's game winner after a big 11-10 win in the quarterfinals in a fantastic game against the Outlaws. Maryland's offense has been very good this season, averaging 13.5 goals per game, the second most in the league. Their defense has struggled though, allowing an average of 12.4 goals per game, tied for second most in the PLL. The Archers have dominated the Whips the last two years. Last year they won both games between these teams and the one time they met this season in Week 5 in Boston, Utah won 16-11. I like the Archers to win this one again with their much better defense to become back to back champs and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd lean the over very slightly, but definitely not enough to bet it. Let's end this lousy season with a nice win.
