My story begins with this handsome anxious devil. He was going to be my way out of anxiety. Little did I know, he would be just as anxious as me, and we were going to have to fight to overcome our fears. A dog needs to go on walks, so we started off simple in a local park. Xander was scared of leaves blowing in the wind, dogs, and birds. While I was scared of the dreaded small talk and humans. I took a note from Xander and took in all of my surroundings. All the unique sounds, the light beams shining between the trees, the animals in their habitat, and I felt peace from the modern world. As our beautiful walks continued day after day, Xanders fears seemed to fade away with the breeze as well. I shockingly began to enjoy the small talk of our surrounds and showing off my handsome furry man. Another twist of this tail is our walk feelings started turning into our everyday feelings. We were less anxious, happier, and more at ease through the days and nights. Seriously, there's science behind it!

These small walks started out as a more entertaining way to take Xander to the bathroom, but turned into my favorite part of the day. Of course, we had to take it up a notch! We embarked on finding all the local trails that would set our hearts on fire. Our morning walks turned into day adventures to Sandy beaches, rocky terrains, and state parks. We were stronger, happier, and eager to explore more! With our tails wagging, we decided to jump into the unknown. A two hour drive to the famous Diana's bath in New Hampshire. A rocky climb up to gorgeous flowing water, and the most peaceful surrounds. Obviously, we went in the off season, on a Monday. At this point we are hooked. Xander now has his own backpack and water bottle, while I have hiking boots, waterproof sandals, and of course Birkenstocks. Now, we have conquered a few small mountains, but the journey has just begun! We love hiking and always try to do so as safe as possible. Here are some great tips for safe hiking with your own dog!
