Opening his raw emotion to the community, Overeem revealed he wasn't just a little bit of a hurtful parent, instead being almost flamboyantly so, with misgendering, denying his child's agency and blaming a mysterious outside force instead of listening to and internalizing the things his child says to him, which has rubbed some fans wrong. "Listen, what you do in your own home is one thing," said UFC fan Chaz Newsome. "You be as shitty and cause as much emotional trauma as you want inside your own home, but you shouldn't be making it everyone else's problem by putting it all in our faces like that. How am I going to explain that kind of cruelty from a parent to my child?" Despite the pushback, response from the MMA community has been broadly loving and inclusive with many speaking up to voice their support for Overeem and causing others to admit that they too would be a shitty parent to a trans child if given the opportunity. | | | |
