We are all grown up and having families of our own. Some of our children have families. How did we become grandmothers and grandparents already? We are not that old. Are we?
Please let it not be!
My generation got a new box of crayons every year before grade school. When collecting stickers in a sticker book was a popular activity. Throwing a worm at a girl was a boy's way of flirting. Wearing the latest Esprit and Guess clothes were all the rage. Large bangs were considered the "in style" for girls. Don't forget about the perms.
This was not the 60s or even the 70s. We were born in the 70s but we grew up in the 80s. Turned into young adults in the 90s. Some of us stupid young adults became even more stupid. Those who never got into trouble during high school, they turned to peer pressure drinking and willfully smoking cigarettes.
The dream has only just begun!
Those college and university years of the smartest to the dumbest. It was not for everyone either money or lack of talent. Brainiacs who graduated and succeeded wonderfully after those four years. Others graduated by the skin of their teeth and still succeeded. The rest of us might have put too much effort and promise into higher education. Came out the other end raw with lumpy legs and bumpy skin.
Look at us still growing!
Onward into the third decade of our existence. Our exploration mode turned into survival mode for good reasons. We are further away from being teenagers. Our minds are sharper even from all the drug use. Some of us never tried drugs. "Just say no" did work for some of us.
Look as us all grown up!
My generation has sprinted up and down windy paths. More slowly now since many wear orthotics in our shoes. Half our teeth have gotten yellow. The other half whiter and straighter. Wearing the latest fashions do not matter to most. Saving money is all the rage. Some of us cannot or do not want to be responsible. Living in between reality and a dying fantasy.
Officially full steam ahead!
Do not forget the G.I. Joes and My Little Ponies stuffed in closets. Remember Debbie Gibson and Tiffany cassette tapes. Don't forget to dress up occasionally. Remember we are not that old. Life is not over yet. Is it? | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
