I won my only play last night on the Bolts for half a unit. After just two Atlantic Division games last night, the NHL scheduling department goes up against the Sweet Sixteen and Opening Day with a huge 14 game slate. Let's win!
Maple Leafs vs. Capitals (7:00)
This should be a fun matchup in the East to start off the night. The Leafs are coming off two losses in a row, losing 6-3 at home to the Devils on Tuesday night (loss for me) and 2-1 in Carolina on Sunday. They're still two points ahead of Tampa for third in the Atlantic, and comfortably in a playoff spot. The Caps hold onto a two point lead over the Red Wings for the second Wild Card spot in the East, and although it doesn't really make sense, they're playing great right now, on a three game win streak after a huge 4-3 overtime win against Detroit on Tuesday night, with six wins in their last seven games, with that loss coming at home to the Leafs. Toronto won the first two games between these teams in DC, winning 4-1 in October and then 7-3 eight days ago. I'd very slightly lean the Caps avoid the season sweep and stay hot on the road here despite the Maple Leafs being the much better team, but I'll stay off it. I'd lean the over and really considered betting it, but probably best to just stay off this game entirely since both of these teams are tough to trust.
Canadiens vs. Flyers (7:00)
Not a great matchup here. The Habs, who are coming off an impressive 2-1 win in Colorado on Tuesday that completely fucked me, their second win in a row, they've sucked this season. The Flyers, who are coming off a 6-5 overtime loss in MSG on Tuesday in an incredible game, are still holding a point lead over the Caps for third in the Metro, and they're in a slump right now with just seven wins in their last 19 games. Philly won the first game between these teams 3-2 in a shootout at home in January. I like them to win again tonight on the road and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Senators vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
Terrible cross conference matchup here. Both of these teams blow. The Senators are the far better team, coming into tonight's game on a three game win streak. They're in the second half of a back to back after thumping my Sabres 6-2 in Buffalo last night, scoring four goals in the first eight minutes of the game. The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL, but come in off two wins in a row after beating the Flames (loss for me) 3-1 on Tuesday night. Chicago won the first game between these teams 3-2 at home in February. The defenses for both of these teams are awful but the Sens are way better offensively and even in the second half of a back to back, I'd expect they win here at home. I'd also lean the over, but not enough to bet on either. I'll lay off this shitty game completely.
Panthers vs. Islanders (7:00)
Not a great game here in the East, a pretty big mismatch and to make it worse, both teams are in pretty big slumps right now. Although the Panthers are the way better team here, they split their first two games, with the Isles winning 4-3 in Florida in December and the Panthers answering back with a 3-2 overtime win on Long Island in January. Florida's two points back from the Bruins to lead the Atlantic Division and have been fantastic this season, but coming off their 4-3 loss at home to the B's on Tuesday, they have just one win in their last six games. The Isles Wild Card hopes are dwindling as they try to chase down the Caps, who are six points ahead of them, with the Red Wings and Devils chasing that spot too. Coming off getting shut out 4-0 by the Devils on Sunday, they have just one win in their last eight games. I like Florida to win here and I'll take them in regulation for half a unit. I think the total is pretty much a coin flip.
Penguins vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)
Lousy Metro Division matchup between two of the worst teams in the division. There's still a huge gap of talent though between these teams. The Penguins are coming off a 4-1 win against the Panthers on Tuesday in a game that they were outplayed in, ending a three game losing streak. The Blue Jackets are far worst, 14 points back in the standings. They got blown out 6-2 in Arizona on Tuesday and they're on a five game losing streak with just one win (against the Sharks) in their last nine games. The Pens won both previous games between these teams pretty easily, both 5-3, on the road in November and at home on March 5th. I like Pittsburgh to win again here. I considered betting their team total, but I think the play I like better is the Pens in regulation, which I'll take for half a unit. I'd absolutely lean the over on the game, but I'll just roll with Pittsburgh here.
Hurricanes vs. Red Wings (7:30)
Great game here in the Metro Division tonight. The Hurricanes are coming off a 4-1 loss in Pittsburgh on Tuesday that they should have won, outplaying the Penguins. They're one of the hottest teams in the NHL, three points back from the Rangers for first in the Metro, with that loss in Pittsburgh ending a seven game point streak, just their third loss in their last twelve games. The Red Wings are two points back from from the Capitals for the second Wild Card spot in the East, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss against in Washington on Tuesday. They have a 3-2-1 record in their last six games. Carolina won both games between these teams previously this season, winning 2-1 on the road in December and then 4-2 at home in January. I like the Canes to bounce back from their loss on Tuesday with a win tonight to sweep Detroit on the year. I'll take them in regulation for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Blues vs. Flames (8:00)
This is such a boring Western Conference matchup tonight. The Blues are playing pretty well right now, coming into tonight's game with a 6-1-1 record in their last eight games, coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at home to the Golden Knights on Monday night. It's a bit too late though, they're not making playoffs. The Flames are on a four game losing streak, coming into tonight off a pathetic 3-1 loss in Chicago on Tuesday night. St. Louis won both previous game between these teams in Calgary this season, winning 3-0 in October and 4-3 in January. This is probably a game that's probably better off staying off, but I like the Blues to win it at home and I'll take a half unit shot on them at pretty close to a pick em. I'd lean the over slightly, but not enough to bet it.
Wild vs. Sharks (8:00)
Huge mismatch in a boring game in the Western Conference in this one. The Wild have had a lousy season, missing the playoffs, but they're playing good hockey right now. Coming off a 5-4 overtime loss to the Blues at home on Saturday, they have a 6-1-3 record in their last ten games. The Sharks on the other hand, coming off a 6-3 loss at home to the Devils (easy win for me) on Tuesday, are one of the worst teams in the NHL. They're on an eight game losing streak with just one win in their last 18 games. Minnesota won the first game between these teams 4-3 earlier this month at home and I expect them to win again here, likely in even easier fashion. The price on this game is expensive at almost -400. I'll take the Wild puck line for half a unit. I'd lean the over but not enough to bet on that with the abysmal Sharks offense.
Jets vs. Golden Knights (8:00)
This should be a really fun game in the West between these two playoff teams, who faced each other in the first round last year. The Jets are comfortably in third place in the Central. Coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Oilers on Tuesday where they erased a 3-1 deficit in the third but couldn't find a way to win, they're on a four game losing streak. The Golden Knights are a point back from the Kings for the third spot in the Pacific, but they're comfortably in the second Wild Card spot in the West. They've played well lately. On Tuesday night they blew a 4-1 loss in Nashville to lose 5-4 in overtime, but they've gone 6-2-1 in their last nine games. Vegas won both previous games between these teams, 5-3 on the road in October and then 5-2 at home in November. I think this is pretty close matchup, and I'd slightly lean the Jets end their losing streak and avoid the season sweep at home, and I'd very slightly lean the over at 5.5 but I'll stay off this game entirely.
Avalanche vs. Rangers (9:00)
Fantastic cross conference matchup here tonight between two of the best teams in the NHL. I think both of these teams have the ability to win the Stanley Cup this season. The Avs had a nine game win streak shockingly come to an end on Tuesday night with a 2-1 loss at home to the Habs, just their second loss in their last 13 games. They're two points back from the Stars for first in the Central. The Rangers, coming off an incredibly entertaining 6-5 overtime win at home against the Flyers on Tuesday that saw seven goals in the third period, currently lead the NHL in a tight President's Trophy and are the first team to clinch a playoff spot this year with 100 points. They're on a three game win streak with just five losses in their last 24 games. The Rags won the first game between these teams 2-1 at home in overtime in February. I'd slightly lean the Avs win at home and the over in this game, but I'm not betting it. Should be awesome to watch.
Oilers vs. Kings (9:00)
This should be a great game in the Pacific Division that could be a preview of their first round series depending on where these teams and the Golden Knights finish. The Oilers are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Winnipeg on Tuesday but they've been a bit inconsistent lately with five wins in their last ten games after a five game win streak. The Kings are a point ahead of Vegas for third in the Pacific, coming into tonight on a four game win streak after a 3-2 win in Vancouver on Monday night. Edmonton's 2-1 in the games between these teams this season, winning 3-2 in a shootout in LA in December, losing 4-0 on the road in February, and answering back with a 4-2 win at home later in February. I'd lean the Oilers and the over here, but not enough to bet it. I'll stay off this game that I expect to be a fun one.
Canucks vs. Stars (10:00)
Another really solid matchup here in the West between the two division leaders here. The Canucks are coming off a 3-2 loss at home to the Kings on Monday night, ending a three game win streak. They're still leading the Western Conference, with a 7-2-1 record their last ten games. The Stars are on fire, with a two point lead over the Avalanche for first in the Central. After beating up on some bad teams, they're on a five game win streak, with ten wins in their last twelve games. These teams split their first two games, each winning at home, a 2-0 win for the Canucks in November, and a 4-3 overtime win for the Stars in December. I like the Stars to get a win here o the road in Vancouver and I'll take them for half a unit. I'd lean the over but not enough to bet them.
Coyotes vs. Predators (10:00)
This isn't a great Central Division matchup, but I love the price on this one which is way cheaper than I think it should be on the Predators. Nashville's the hottest team in the NHL this season, coming into tonight's game on an 18 game point streak with just two losses in that span and a six game win streak. They pulled off a hell of a comeback on Thursday, erasing a 4-1 deficit in the third period to force overtime with a Roman Josi getting the winner 40 seconds into OT. The Coyotes, coming off a 6-2 win against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, have four wins in their last six games, but have sucked this season. Arizona leads the season series here 2-1 surprisingly, winning 7-5 on the road in November, 3-2 at home in January, and then losing 2-1 in overtime in Smashville. I love Nashville in this matchup and I think there getting great value on the Preds at just -164, which I'll take for a unit. I'd slightly lean the over, but definitely not enough to bet it.
Kraken vs. Ducks (10:00)
Pretty lousy Pacific Division matchup here to close out the night. Both of these teams are playing terrible hockey right now and having lousy seasons. This is their second game in a row with the Kraken winning 4-0 at home on Tuesday night the last time they played, and won the previous game 3-2 in Anaheim back in December. Tuesday's win ended an eight game losing streak for the Kraken and the Ducks are one of the three worst teams in the league, with just one win in their last ten games. I like Seattle to win this one again tonight, and I'll take them in regulation for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but I'm not touching that.
