Yesterday's NHL slate started terrible for me, but I had a solid comeback on the later games, finishing the day 4-6, losing 1.36 units. Today we have a huge ten game Sunday slate, let's bounce back! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4503wHOfyS…
Yesterday's NHL slate started terrible for me, but I had a solid comeback on the later games, finishing the day 4-6, losing 1.36 units. Today we have a huge ten game Sunday slate, let's bounce back!
Capitals vs. Jets (12:30)
This should be a great matchup to start off the day. The Capitals have been on a tear lately and are somehow a point back from the Red Wings for the second Wild Card in the East. Coming off a big 7-6 shootout win on Friday against the Canes on Sonny Milano's hat trick, they've won four of their last five games. The Jets have played well, two points back from the Avs and Stars for first in the Central. They're coming off two surprising losses in a row though, losing 6-3 on Long Island yesterday and 4-1 in Jersey on Thursday (both losses for me). Winnipeg won the first game between these teams 3-0 at home earlier this month. I think they're the better team here and I'd lean they win, but in the second half of a back to back, and with how well Washington's playing, I'll stay off it. I'd lean the under as well, but I'll stay off this game entirely.
Avalanche vs. Penguins (2:00)
This isn't a good cross conference game. The Avalanche are one of the best teams in the West and playing awesome hockey right now. They're tied with Dallas for first in the Central Division and they're true Cup Contenders, rolling into today's game on an eight game win streak after trouncing the Blue Jackets 6-1 on Friday. The Penguins stink, with just three wins in their last 13 games, coming off a 4-2 loss in Dallas on Friday. Back in October the Pens actually won the first game between these teams with a 4-0 shutout. I really like the Avalanche to answer back here and I'll take them in regulation for a unit. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Islanders vs. Devils (5:00)
Interesting Metro Division matchup here. The Islanders finally ended their six game losing skid yesterday, with a pretty surprising 6-3 win at home against the Jets yesterday. They're still three points back from the Red Wings for the second Wild Card spot in the East. The Devils are coming off a 5-2 loss yesterday to the Senators, and have played pretty lousy all season. In the first two games between these teams the Devils won both of those games 5-4, on the road in overtime in October and then at home in regulation in November. I'd slightly lean the Isles win this one, but not enough to even consider betting it. I do like the over here though, which I'll take at the alternate line of 6 for half a unit.
Senators vs. Oilers (6:00)
Huge mismatch in this cross conference Canadian matchup tonight. Both of these teams are in the second half of back to backs tonight. The Senators have been awful this season, tied with the Habs for last in the Atlantic. They're coming off a 5-2 win yesterday against the Devils to end their three game losing streak. The Oilers are very good, in second place in the Pacific, coming off a 6-3 loss in Toronto last night to end their six game point streak. They've played well lately with a 9-2-2 record in their last 13 games. Edmonton won the first game between these teams 3-1 at home in January, and I like them to win again here and I'll take them for a unit. I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Flyers vs. Panthers (6:00)
Very interesting game here between these two Eastern Conference playoff teams. The Flyers, coming off a 3-2 win against the Bruins yesterday haven't impressed me all that much this season, but they're still in third place in the Metro Division. The Panthers have been fantastic this year, two points back from the Bruins for first in the Atlantic, and I think they're the best team in the East. They're in the second half of a back to back, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss in MSG last night, but come into tonight's game on a four game losing streak. Philly won the first two games between these teams, both 2-1 on the road in Florida. I think the Panthers are the better team here and I'd expect them to end their losing streak and avoid the season sweep by the Flyers with a win on the road tonight. I don't like it enough to bet on though. I'd also lean the under, but not enough to bet that either, so I will stay off this game.
Hurricanes vs. Maple Leafs (6:00)
This should be a fantastic Eastern Conference matchup between these two playoff teams. Both previous games between these teams in Toronto were close, with the Canes winning both games on the road, winning 3-2 in December and then 5-4 in a shootout a week and a half ago. I think Carolina, who are in second place in the Metro, are the best team in the division. They had a five game win streak come to an end on Friday night, losing 7-6 in a shootout in DC, just their second loss in their last ten games. The Leafs are playing well right now too, in the second half of a back to back, coming off a 6-3 win against the Oilers at home yesterday. I'd lean the Canes complete the season sweep here, and I'd lean the over, but not enough to bet either. I'll lay off this game entirely.
Coyotes vs. Stars (8:00)
This isn't a good Central Division matchup by any means. The Stars have been fantastic, tied with the Avs for first place in the division. They're on a three game win streak, coming off a 4-2 win on Friday night against the Penguins. The Coyotes, coming off a 2-1 win in overtime against the Kraken on Friday, have actually won three of their last four games, but they're terrible this season. Dallas won both previous games between these teams, winning 4-3 in overtime at home in November, and then 5-2 at home last Wednesday. I like them to complete the season sweep on the road tonight and I'll take the Stars in regulation for half a unit. I'd slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Ducks vs. Lightning (8:30)
Huge mismatch in this cross conference game. The Ducks are easily one of the three worst teams in the NHL this season, and one of the three teams already eliminated from playoff contention. They had a seven game losing streak come to an end on Thursday, shutting out the Blackhawks for a 4-0 win at home. The Lightning have been fantastic, comfortably in the first Wild Card spot in the East. They're in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in LA last night, with Stammer scoring twice in the last five minutes to tie it up and force OT (cashing my over), ending their five game win streak. Tampa dominated the first game between these teams with a 5-1 win at home in January. I like the Bolts quite a bit to bounce back from last night's loss and I'll take them in regulation for a unit along with their team total over 3.5 for half a unit. I'd lean the under slightly, but not enough to bet it.
Kraken vs. Canadiens (9:00)
Pretty terrible matchup here. Both of these teams have been bad lately, having disappointing seasons. The Kraken, coming off a 2-1 loss in overtime on Friday night in Arizona come into tonight's game on a seven game losing streak. Although their defense and goaltending has been good this season, their offense is horrendous. The Habs are bad on both ends of the ice, coming into tonight's game on a four game losing streak, tied with Ottawa as the worst team in the Atlantic. Montreal won the first game between these teams 4-2 at home in December. I'd lean the better defense gets Seattle the win on home ice tonight, but I don't think they're worth laying the -165 on them. I'd lean the under here, and really considered betting it, but I think it's probably best to lay off this game rather than betting the 5.5. I'll stay off this game completely.
