Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy Shit. HOLY SHIT! The Mets are officially back. After a grueling winter of minor moves, the Mets waited for the first day of Spring to make a huge signing. JD Martinez is officially a New York Met. The Mets have a legit power-hitting DH. Peter Alonso has a legit power hitter behind him. I could not be any happier right now. For the first time this season, I feel the Mets have a strong chance to make the playoffs.
I'm just happy the Mets have a consistent player, and JD Martinez is the definition of that. Outside of 2020, which is not a real season and no one should ever count, he has been a good to great player. In five of his last six seasons, he has hit over 25 home runs, 25 doubles, and in four of the previous six seasons, he's hit over 90 RBIs. Just a solid, reliable player you can put in the middle of your batting order. And how could you not love the Mets' batting order!
I mean, just look at this lineup. That's a legit batting order. If Marte can stay healthy, the Mets have a chance to have one of the best offenses in the MLB. Their only holes are a young third baseman and a platoon center fielder. Will they probably still finish third in the NL East? Yeah, probably. Do they still have holes in their starting pitching? Yeah, but the offense will lead them to the Promise Land. That offense should lead them to 85 wins and a wild-card spot. Let's go Mets!
