Interesting Metro Division matchup here with these two teams both separated by just a point and in the middle of the Eastern Conference Wild Card race. The Capitals are in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 4-3 win in Pittsburgh last night against their rival Pens to end a four game losing streak. They've come crashing down a bit as of late. All season Washington's defense has been elite but they've struggled big time to score and are one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL. The Devils have played the opposite style of hockey with a great offensive but a really struggling defense. They had a three game win streak come to an end on Saturday night with a 5-2 loss in Boston. Washington won both previous games between these teams, both in pretty high scoring games on the road, winning 6-4 and then 4-2 in Jersey. I do think the Devils are the better team here and I'd lean they get a win tonight, especially with the Caps on the second half of a back to back, but not enough to bet on them. I'd slightly lean the under, but expect this game to end up with 5-6 goals, and with the way the Devils trend over, the best move here is no play at all. I'll stay off this game entirely.
Ducks vs. Maple Leafs (9:00)
This is a pretty lousy cross conference matchup. The Ducks have been terrible this season, only ahead of the Sharks in the Pacific Division. They ended 2023 getting blown out 7-2 on New Year's Eve against the Oilers and they've only picked up four wins in their last 21 games. Anaheim's really struggled offensively and haven't been good defensively either. The Leafs ended their three game losing streak last night with a 3-0 shutout win in LA. They've kept a lot of games close and haven't been as dominant this season as they likely should've, but they're still holding the third place spot in the Atlantic. Toronto's been solid offensively but they've had their struggles on the back end. Even in the second half of a back to back on the road, I like the Maple Leafs to win here and I'll take them in regulation for half a unit. I'd lean the under, but not enough to be it.
